Making New Years Resolutions: What to Consider

new years resolutions

New Years Resolutions are the bane of my existence. They straight up set you up for failure and unless you tackle them with the same tenacity that you would a round of melted Brie you are just going to get a big, fat sad emoji.

It doesn’t have to be that way, you don’t have to fail and you CAN and WILL succeed if you are just honest with yourself.

What to Consider When Making New Years Resolutions

Time

Do not and I repeat do not tell yourself you will be going to the gym three times a week if you can barely get enough time to yourself to brush your hair. If you have kids and the gym is a twenty minute drive each way, just be fucking honest with yourself. Get a FitBit (read why I love mine here) and try to get the 10K steps in daily. Buy a workout DVD and do that at nap time. If you need some fun fitness designed by a mom for mom’s check out Hot Mama Fit and do their 28-day Ignite program from the comfort of home. Because noone wants to leave the house to workout. It’s fucking cold out and if you work up a sweat and then head out to the car to go home you will fucking freeze, literally.

Passion

There is nothing I hate seeing more then people saying they will do something more in a year that they are not passionate about. If you didn’t love books enough to read any in the past decade lets not kids ourselves with the premise that we will read a new book a day/week/month. It’s not going to happen and if it does AND you love doing it you will have hit the magical unicorn on the horn. Also, see the above point…where are you going to find the time?

Money

I am all about you wanting to follow your dreams of travelling the world and stepping foot on every continent but if you are like many of us who are living paycheck to paycheck you may want to do a reality check. Maybe a weekend away a few times a year is a better bet. Another one is deciding on a completely new lifestyle/diet/clothes concept. New beginnings usually have some sort of start-up fees. Keep that in mind when you get the idea to go gluten-free/carb-free/taste-free this year.

What to do Instead

Find a word that encompasses all you want to do this year. ANY WORD. Well not anyword because you don’t want a word like ‘mediocre’ to be the guiding light for 2017. Find that word, love that word, become that word and let the word become a part of you. You got this!

Now tell me your word…I chose Slay because I plan on killing it in 2017!
