Diaper Genie: Disposing of Dirty Diapers the Elite Way

“What is that smell?”

This question is never one that ends well  in our house. Someone either let a silent one rip or I have once again lost a dirty diaper. To be honest it’s usually 50:50.

With 1 and a half kids in diapers (potty-training), I am known to change diapers all over the house. We have stations set up in all of the bedrooms, living room, and even my little office space. What we don’t have is a diaper containment unit, and it gets crazy in here if I forget.

Like a game of hide-and-seek they family sets out to get to the bottom of the smell and although the reward is not great, getting rid of the culprit is.

I wouldn’t have this issue if I had a system in place to capture the diapers other than the wet food bin. This non-system may make my husband finally lose his mind over my semi-domestic goddess skills. I know I have to do better and the answer has shown up on my doorstep–literally.

Playtex Baby Diaper Genie Elite

Last week the Diaper Genie Elite (ARV $45.99) showed up and we have been  fighting over using it since. Whenever I put a wrap a diaper up ready to put it down one of the kids swoops in and throws it in the Diaper Genie Elite. I think they are sick and tired of my iffy housekeeping skills and this is something they are keen on helping with.

I prefer gender neutral tones so I chose the light gray system but with options like pink, blue and the classic white this is a perfect addition to your nursery (or anywhere you choose to diaper). The design is sleek enough that it can easily blend in and that is important when you consider that this will be in your home for the long run.

What makes the Diaper Genie Elite better than other systems, in my opinion, is the fact that it is hands-free. You just have to step on the pedal and drop the diaper in. My previous diaper disposal unit was made in a way that I had to physically push the diaper in and it was bothersome, especially if I was holding the baby in my arms.

Another great feature is the carbon filter. It is a mess-free way of absorbing unwanted smells. The unit I had before had baking soda and although it was contained, when it came time to changing it I always made a mess (no surprise).

A pleasant surprise is the refills. Heavy-duty clear blue bags make sure to keep the mess and smell in and the diapers contained. Big time winner over her for ease-of-use as you just have to open the refills, tie the end and drop it in.

With two years of diapers left in our house, at least, I will be happy to have the Playtex Baby Diaper Genie Elite as part of our diaper routine. I know my husband and kids thank Playtex Baby for sending this over as our home is being kept smelling fresh thanks to no more lost diapers.

I would love this! I do have a diaper geinie but it’s an older model and does not have the fancy foot pedal. I have to stuff the diaper down. This model would be more helpful with a near 2 year old and a brand new baby in our house!
