Cottage Ownership Made Possible: A Must Read

cottage

Anybody else desperately need a cottage?

Summer vacation has me over here wishing we had somewhere to escape. Every time I open Facebook I see everybody lounging on donut shaped floaties in a lake and making amazing family memories, while I contemplate what to do with my bunch.

Let’s be honest though with my mortgage payments and the costs of raising a family of six I really can’t afford to be buying a cottage with lakefront property like everyone else.

Cottage Ownership at Great Blue Resorts

COTTAGE

I have recently come across Great Blue Resorts and they may be the answer that we (and you) are looking for. Although I want a second property to run away to on a whim I will tell you what I don’t want–another property to maintain. I don’t think mowing the lawn when I am wanting to be relaxing is a great cottage activity.

Great Blue Resorts brings us resort style living. Beautiful modern cottages in quiet forested areas with some neighbours and the fantastic (and coveted) lake views we all love so much–minus the mowing of the lawn and grounds upkeep.

Each cottage is built with the belief that low maintenance is of utmost importance although it does not skimp on modern amenities and convenience. The communities include resort-inspired communities such as sports courts, heated salt-water swimming pools, playgrounds and a recreation pavilion, a kids club, social activities and more.

What is the cost?

When considering all of the different cost associated with cottage ownership such as taxes, running cost, maintenance and upkeep, not to mention mortgage and loan payments, Great Blue Resorts seems to be a much more affordable option. Pre-owned (few years old) start at $49,900 and brand spanking new will cost $74,900 (deck included). A deposit of $10,000 is required and all  models come with shingled rooftops, low-maintenance vinyl siding and windows and are fully furnished throughout with appliances, air conditioning and a choice of tasteful décor.

With eight different communities spread out through Ontario, you are sure to find one that will meet your ideal location. Personally I don’t want to drive far if I want to relax, so a community like Bellemere Winds would be ideal for me. You can download the PDF for the locations to find out which is closest to you here.

I am so with you. I feel like summer is wasting away and we haven’t done anything FUN yet. I wish we had these in Alberta.

This is great to have! I hope more of these types of cottages will pop up across the country.

Sounds like a good idea. We have an RV set up on a seasonal lot so that is our “cottage” but it is nice to have a place to get away to!

I’d love to have a cottage by a lake (filled with fish of course) and one that’s easily kept up. This sounds just like what I’d need, not heard of anything like this in AB though. So do you actually own the cottage then, what about all the normal stuff like taxes, running cost, maintenance and upkeep?
