Breville Smart Oven™ Air Review

The Breville Smart Oven™ Air has taken over my kitchen. This post is long overdue but due to the sheer amount of times we use this countertop oven a day I couldn’t keep it clean enough or keep me focused enough to write this. I’m carving out the time to share why I think each household (and trailer, cottage, dorm, or any living space really) should have one. 

When my husband and I moved in together the first thing to go was his toaster oven. I seriously despised the way it ate up counter space for something that couldn’t even make us a meal. I vowed to never let any countertop oven take up the valuable real estate in my kitchen ever again. We bought the fancy induction range with dual ovens and I thought it was going to be my happily ever after. 

Over the years I have started to dread using my oven though. I use it to store my baking ware and turkey roasting pan. Turning it on meant unloading its contents onto my counters and that’s a nuisance. Since the Smart Oven™ Air came into our life I have simply not bothered to use our own big oven once. The brushed stainless steel Breville unit has shown me that even though it’s small in size it can easily cook meals for the 6 of us, even more, when we’re entertaining. 

Breville Smart Oven™ Air

As a big family unit that really likes to eat, I had some reservations about whether we would actually be able to fit our meals into the 1 ft³ interior space. First of all this Smart Oven™ Air with Element IQ® can roast a 14 lb turkey, 12 cup muffin tray or evenly toast 9 slices of bread. It does a big job in a small space and colour me impressed, it even did it faster. 

That would probably be the super convection capabilities that offer a 2-speed fan (regular and super) cooking experience, delivering more volume of air moving around making air frying, dehydrating and roasting in record time. 

Out of the box, the oven comes with a 13″ pizza pan, 2 oven racks, 9″x13″ broil rack and enamel roasting pan and mesh basket rack for dehydrating and air frying. Opening it up is what I imagine Christmas feels like for a kid who just got exactly what they asked for.  

The first thing we tackled was french fries with the air fry function to see if they could indeed be cooked to crispy perfection without the extra oil. I have been pushing for an air fryer for a couple of years and glad we held out as I prefer fewer appliances that can do more, especially ones who are high quality I can trust like the Breville brand. I have not tried out the dehydrate function but Fast Slow Pro with ease. Something else that impressed me was the proof setting. There is nothing like having freshly baked bread at home, am I right?

Although the oven comes with 13 pre-programmed settings like Toast 9 slices, Bagel, Broil, Bake, Roast, Warm, Pizza, Proof, Airfry, Reheat, Cookies, Slow Cook, Dehydrate you are also free to adjust the time, temperature and settings as you see fit. You can easily see where you need to place the racks to get optimal cooking results and I quickly realize that the 1800 watts of power provided more precise cooking but also that my recipes for my big oven had to be adjusted about 20º down to get the same results. 

You can pull out the bottom tray to clean the crumbs and I usually bring it to the sink to give it a good clean down. I have found that if I get the oven hot I can use a damp cloth while wearing an oven glove to clean the inside. I am not saying this is the safest way to do it but it is the easiest in my opinion. 

Mostly I am impressed with the consistent results I have been getting with the Smart Oven™ Air. The Element IQ®  works 6 independent quartz heating elements that adjust automatically for each setting. I never thought with a family as big as ours we could make dinners easily but thanks to the Smart Oven™ Air and our trust Fast Slow Pro we seem to have ditched traditional cooking methods and instead went stronger, faster and honestly, more delicious.
