The Last Bottle of Formula: Cue the Sadness

Today I mixed my last bottle of formula for my baby. A couple weeks short of his first birthday I have opted out of buying another container. I have opted to meet this milestone head-on even though it is one that stopped me in my tracks.

While shopping a few weeks ago I saw that my brand was on sale. I was excited and picked up a few containers even though I had a couple at home already. It was then that I stopped myself and mentally calculated my youngest sons age. Eleven months–I had enough formula at home and I put back the containers on the shelf, maintaining my composure inside the store so no one could see that I was getting teary eyed over a $5-off can of formula.

That can of formula is so much more then just that. This is a milestone I measure, I know that this symbolizes my little guy about to meet other milestones such as walking and standing unassisted. Soon my baby will be a toddler and I will no longer have a home with a baby in it. He is my last baby.

My husband and I have laughed and joked these past few weeks about having another kid and our older kids have been asking for more babies but in all honestly we are done. I am done. It’s time to start making memories with our kids and I want to go on adventures.

Philips Avent Classic+ Bottles

I may be getting rid of the formula but I am not getting rid of the bottles. I have been known to let my kids drink out of bottles until they want to stop and our current ones are the Philips Avent Classic+.

The thing is little ones sometimes have fussy tummy’s and you want to stop that at the source. The Classic+ bottles reduce colic and discomfort in a new one-piece anti-colic system that has an innovative valve integrated into the nipple. All that means is that as your babe sucks the valve on the nipple flexes and allows the air to go into the bottle and not your little ones tummy.

You can’t flat out see why it is so amazing but you will be thrilled when it comes time to clean these babies and you don’t have a million pieces to put back together. This is a bottle and not a jig-saw puzzle and I love that its as easy as 1, 2, 3 to put back together.

I have a personal preference of wide bodied bottles so that my kids can easily hold onto them but also so I can get my fat hands in to clean them. Nothing worse than not being able to clean a bottle easily when my little’s are hungry and crying for food. I’m not organized enough to have them all washed and ready to go all the time.

Also worth mentioning is that the tops are all inter-changeable although not suggested with the Classic+ because of the anti-colic system.
