Underwear Training is the New Potty Training

One step forward and two steps back.

That seems to be our potty training story with Aria and she is not to blame, this falls square on my shoulders. She wanted to do it, did all of the proper things, had her older sister show her the ropes. But like most everything…life happened and we had to detour.

This summer was busy for us. We spent lots of time on the road or out and about. I was so scared that Aria would have an accident that I chose to put diapers on her when we went out and for good reason. On the ride back to Halifax airport to jump on a plane to go home, Aria peed in her carseat. Thank god for plastic bags and understanding airport staff but it was the stuff of nightmares people. I hindered her progress but once we came back from our vacation I was more than happy to start again.

But we had to change the method we went about it this time because she is too smart for her own good that one.

Working towards a common goal with Aria was key. She has very sensitive skin so diapers irritate her and give her a rash. She knows that and although she hates sitting in a wet diaper she would have accidents.

When we got an email from the folks at Pampers telling us about their new ‘underwear training’ program with Easy Ups I was excited to try it out. One less kid in diapers is a big help on the pocketbook.

When we got our kit Aria was excited to open it. It was important for our progress that we told her this was underwear and not diapers. She’s smart and diapers absorb, diapers let her be lazy and we wanted her to work towards a goal–the toilet.

Check out our unboxing!

She was smitten with the Pampers Easy Ups Dora designs but I was more concerned about them doing their job. They have really good stretch all around and they feel more like underwear than I thought they would thanks to the cottony feel of the outside layer. So they look like underwear but still give the same protection as Pampers thanks to the Extra Absorb Channels™and Dual Leak-Guard Barriers™ and come in sizes 2T-3T, 3T-4T, and 4T-5T.

I know its trickery but it had to happen. She had to believe that they were underwear and we repeated it so much that I think she is pretty much brain washed now. She gets it and our accidents are few and far apart. The super 360° stretchy waistband makes it easy for her to pull them on and off which is awesome. I don’t want to have to go with her each time she has the feeling and she comes out of the washroom letting us all know just what she has accomplished. The whole family now knows more about her bathroom habits then we really need to but at least she is proud and we are in turn proud of her.

As for us, one more kid to go until we are completely diaper free. I can without a doubt say that I will not miss these bad boys at all.
