Mother’s Day Movie: A Great Movie To Watch

Mother’s Day is the one day where I wish it was all about me but to be honest it never is. My husband’s birthday is always celebrated on Mother’s Day and as much as I want to make it about me I don’t. What I will be doing this year though is taking my mother-in-law and sister-in-law’s to the movies to watch the new movie “Mother’s Day” when it comes out on April 29, 2016.

Starring some of my favourite actors such as Jeniffer Aniston, Kate Hudson, Julia Roberts and Jason Sudeikis, and directed by the same guy who did Valentines Day and Pretty Woman (Garry Marshall), you can bet this is a classic chick flick. Following three generations of moms as they navigate through life in the week before Mother’s Day and also weaving in the story line of Bradley, a single dad. I love comedies with a healthy dose of drama so I am looking forward to leaving the kids with the men and heading to the theatres with my ladies.

My youngest daughter made me flowers from foam and “planted them” in a pot that she decorated just for me. It sits in my bedroom where I can see it. She also made me a video of herself singing Oh Canada, for me. It’s hilarious! 🙂

My favorite Mother’s Day gift is a necklace my son made in Kindergarten. It is just so big, clunky and….well…ugly but it’s the first gift he ever made me all by himself so I still wear it every Mothers Day even though he is 16 now.

My 3 year old, with the help of Nanny, made a card for me and posted it. It was a beautiful surprise to find in the mail on Mother’s Day. Now I have another little one on the way, and looking forward to sharing more memories like this with my new little one.

One of the best gifts I ever got was a video a friend made for me. I had moved away earlier in the year and he went around to friends and family getting them to wish me a happy birthday, and even went and filmed my old family home, high school and college. Hmm, well, I used to work as an Assistant ESL teacher overseas at an elementary school up on top of the hill. Well, one time on my birthday, because it took me extra long to get my lesson material ready, I had to sprint up the hill to make it to the school on time . . and I was still late. Tired, sweaty, and out of breath, I embarrassingly made my way to the classroom thinking, “This is an awful way to start my birthday . .” only to be surprised by the head teacher with a birthday cake and cards written out by all the students. That birthday turned out to be the best ever. 🙂

This was given years ago when my boys were little, they put a great deal of thought into what I would want and that meant so much to me. Broke the bird bath basin when moving it during yard work this past week and actually shed a tear!

My favorite gift I ever received was a cookbook my daughter made in kindergarten. They had to tell the teacher the recipe of their favorite thing mom cooked for them and the teacher made it into a book. We have had many laughs over that book through the years. My favorite gift was given to me by my mom, a set of diamond studs earrings. It is special to me because my mom has taken the diamonds (which my grandma has given her when she married my dad) and made me the earrings with them when I got married. 🙂

I don’t really get gifts on Mother’s Day since my kids are still young but last year a local jewelry store was advertising real “gems” for only $5 if a kid came in to buy it for Mother’s Day. So my 3 older daughters worked some chores to make $5 each and got me to drop them off outside the jewelry store. I had to wait outside while they went in to get their gems. It was so sweet of them to do this even though I think the point of it was that the jewelry sales people would upsell the gems into a setting!

My favorite gift to give was a pre-paid cell phone to my elderly mom, for emergencies. She doesn’t really know how to use it except to make calls and despite giving her minutes to use to call people she doesn’t utilize them and I keep telling her to use her cell phone without worry of minutes. To my mom, to have this cellphone for emergencies gives her great comfort and it also gives me peace of mind to know if anything happens that she can make a call no matter where she is.
