Laundry Again: How to Love the Task Even More

10 Tips To Get Your House Clean and Keep It That Way

This post is called “How to Fall In Love With Laundry Again” but I already love laundry so I am here to convince you.

I don’t love laundry because we have little to do, or because my family always sorts dirty clothes into the proper baskets, or even because they turn their clothes right side out. They don’t. They are animals who go through more outfit changes than the models at Toronto Fashion Week and leave them all over the house. All over. There is at least a half dozen laundry piles in the house as I type. I still love it.

You see when I collect the laundry from all over the house the family thinks I am going down for the long haul. They think I am down there pre-treating, sorting, measuring, and generally trying to dig myself out of the HUGE mountain of clothes a family of 6 goes through. You know what? Not one of them comes down to help me or look for me because they don’t want to get roped into all that they think goes on with laundry. If only they knew…

My Happy Place–The Laundry Room

Our old laundry room was what I imagine happened when someone renovated their kitchen and didn’t want to throw out the cabinets. They just put in their clear-coated pine mish-mashed cabinets and called it a day. If I was going to spend hours a week down there I needed to brighten that space up and really make it my own.

I started off with a fresh coat paint on the walls and cabinets to brighten up the space. There is nothing worse than having to go into a dark, dingy basement and I no longer dread going down into a dated hack job of a laundry room.

Then when our old washing machine exploded I upgraded with the biggest, baddest, top-loader I ever did see. I can now do 3 regular loads at once in that baby and if you ever get a chance to update your laundry appliances size does matter. Repeat after me: “Size Does Matter“.

Have a place for your snacks and wine down there. No one will judge you, heck they won’t even go down there searching for you so you know you can have some really great stuff too! I sometimes just sit down on the pile of dirty clothes and chill out away from the screaming kids, dirty dishes, and work responsibilities.

I have only tried pods twice, from samples. I’ve used arm and hammer liquid detergent for many years.

I like to do laundry. The only problem is The washers now days do not even clean the clothes. I grew up with the old washer with a wringer. I would even take that over one of these new ones.I also like to hang clothes out on the line. They smell so fresh.

Good article, I don’t mind doing laundry because always have something else to do, curling up with a good book is one of my favorite.

Laundry’s not a problem for me now that I’m on my own, a load once a week at most. I’ve not tried these pods yet, I was not happy with those from OxiClean for a cold wash – even in warm water those didn’t dissolve properly.

I have to admit to liking pods as my preferred laundry detergent purveyor. They seem to really work better at cleaning our clothes than liquid mainly because I think that the pod distributes the soap more evenly. Or maybe that’s just my washer :).

I like to curl up on the couch and read a good book while doing laundry, that way it isn’t such a chore.

Laundry would only be a chore if I had to take my clothes to a laundry mat , but even then one can sometimes meet people at the laundry & I used to take a book to read just in case I didn’t.

I think having a great washing machine really does make the job more fun. I’d love to get a big energy efficient top loader too. It’s amazing how much space they can have inside of them!

You did such a great job on your laundry room and I absolutely love the colour of your cupboards, what a great choice. I have an older washing machine so I don’t use the pods because they’re for high efficiency washers.

I really enjoyed your post. My family all do their own laundry so it’s not much of a chore for me. The part I dislike most, is putting my clean clothes away – I guess I need to declutter/ organize my drawers and closet to make it easier.
