How to Cope With Your Feelings of Anxiety

How to Cope With Your Feelings of Anxiety

Life has its ups and downs. There’s no getting around that, if you find yourself having to deal with a lot of the pressures that life has to offer you may start to become anxious.

You are not alone and you’ll find that many people suffer from anxiety because of this. If you’re feeling the pressure of having to deal with a lot, there’s only one route you should be taking, you must try to control your anxiety as much as possible.

This is not always easy but you don’t have to feel like you’re drowning, there is security and light at the end of the tunnel. The first thing you need to do is find solutions that will work. Here are some of the biggest things you need to consider when you are trying to tame anxiety.

Find Your Triggers

The first step you need to take is to find your triggers. Everybody is triggered by different things that can contribute to anxiety. For the most part, it all depends on your lifestyle.

You need to pinpoint certain things in your atmosphere and your daily life, once you have pinpointed things that are triggering your anxiety you can then take steps to curb them. Here are some common triggers that can leave you feeling as if butterflies are flapping in your stomach.

Caffeine

You might love that morning cup of Joe, but could it be one of the causes and triggers of your anxiety?

While that first morning cup of coffee can hit the spot making you alert and ready to start the day, you should also be aware that it can become a trigger for anxiety if you drink too much. Like everything else, drinking coffee to get that extra kick in the morning or whenever you choose to drink it should be done in moderation.

Lack of Sleep

It’s only natural that if you’re not getting enough sleep your anxiety will be triggered. Try to get as much shut-eye as you possibly can whenever possible.

By getting enough sleep you will be able to better cope with all the challenges that you will face. Walking around exhausted is only going to make you grumpy and make it harder for you to do the things you have to do.

It’s only natural that your anxiety will go through the roof. If you are wondering how to get rid of bad anxiety at night, getting enough sleep is one of them.

Poor Nutrition

Believe it or not, what you are putting in your mouth and your stomach regularly can be a cause of anxiety. When you’re not eating properly your blood sugar is going to drop and it can make you very jittery. You can avoid this by always making sure that you are eating well at all times.

Medication

The medications you are taking can also contribute to your anxiety, so never count them out. Always ask your doctor about all the side effects that you will get from any medication that you absolutely must take. There may be ways to reduce your anxiety during specific times. Maybe the dosage of the medication can be lowered to help keep the jitters at bay.

Take Care of Yourself

One of the biggest ways you can curb your anxiety is simply by paying more attention to self-care. Self-care should always be paramount on your list of priorities.

No matter what you do you need to make sure that you are taking the time to comfort, pamper and take care of yourself.

You must find time to be alone with the things that are most important to you. This may be your hobbies or even your family and friends.

Think about all the things that make your heart fill up with joy and make a list of them. This list will serve as the template by which you can find activities that will relax your mind. Make a promise to yourself to do as many of them as you possibly can whenever the time and the whim strikes you.

Choose Your Circle Wisely

One important thing you must do is to make sure that you are choosing your circle as wisely as you possibly can. Sometimes the people that you hang around with too much can be a catalyst for your mental breakdown if you are not careful. This is why you need to have loving and supportive people around you that will lift you up during those times when you feel down.

Having people around you who are capable of soothing you is a must if you want to make sure that you are mentally healthy.

It will also ensure that your feelings of anxiety are managed. While these feelings are internal, the environment, especially those with whom you come in contact, needs to make you feel good about life.

Make Plans to Vacation

Having a time when you vacation is critical if you want to soothe your anxieties. Life can be a rat race and you don’t want to get so caught up with it that you don’t take the time to specifically schedule vacation time.

Sometimes your vacation doesn’t even have to be away from home. If you can’t afford it, consider a staycation instead.

A staycation could have you staying at home and simply relaxing for a period of time. It’s important to know that you should plan activities out of the norm that you would not normally be doing at home. It makes your staycation a lot more exciting than just staying at home.

Another thing you can do for your staycation is to rent a home temporarily that is in the same city or town where you live. The change in environment may seem simple but it can make a world of difference to your relaxation and clear your headspace if there is any confusion.

You may be surprised at just how well you feel. It won’t cost you a lot and it is a good time for you to unplug and reevaluate your life. Of course, if you can afford it by all means do a big getaway.

Examine Your Work-life

While most people think of work as being fun, there should be some level of fulfillment and satisfaction that you get from the work that you are doing.

If you’re not experiencing this it may be time to move into a different career field where you can spread your wings and soar to new heights.

It’s important that you have some kind of satisfaction with what you’re doing or you’re not going to excel at it and this can cause you a lot of anxiety.

Not only that but the everyday action of just getting out of bed and going to work can cause you to have a panic attack if you’re not careful. This is why you should always try to be in a field where you feel valued and capable which brings you some level of joy.

Create a Work-Life Balance

Try to create a healthy work-life balance whenever you can. A good work-life balance is going to be the key to ensuring that you contain your anxiety when it comes to work.

If possible you should try to work for an employer that supports this model of work. Most employers these days recognize that there is a strong need for employees to have this balance in order to be healthy.

After all, a healthy employee is more productive and this benefits the company in terms of productivity. However, you can’t depend on your employer to strike the balance for you. You must take the reins for yourself, and steer your life in the right direction if you want to stay afloat emotionally.

Make sure that you do your best on the job but also recognize your limitations as well. Don’t push ahead of your physical boundaries or you could do more damage than good.

Get Help

If things are not going well you might want to consider getting professional help. It can be hard to admit that things are getting away from you and you are losing your grip. However, you should not feel as if you are unique and something is wrong with you if you feel the need to get therapy for your anxiety.

This is the best course of action you should take if you are feeling overrun by your situation. This way you can contain the problem and keep your life stable. Excessive anxiety wreaks havoc in your personal life and your professional life as well.

Don’t be caught in the trap of feeling that you have to take on everything on your own. There are people available who can help you navigate your path so that the bumps in the road do not make you fall down.

The bottom line is that anxiety can be overwhelming but it doesn’t need to completely take over your life. There are strategies you can use to get things on track so that you can enjoy a rich and fruitful life.
