Hair Loss: Why It Happens & How To Manage Thinning Hair With Nioxin

A few years ago I complained to my mother-in-law about my thinning hair after I had all the kids. I had never had hair loss before and she showed up at my door like a hair fairy with Nioxin and just said: “trust me”.

It was during that time that I fell in love with the Nioxin system and how it made my hair and scalp look and feel.

Reasons Why Men and Women Suffer From Hair Loss

I have always been surprised when I have seen people, even young people, with thinning hair. When I was younger I always assumed that it was something that happened with age and I was surprised that there were a lot of factors in play when it came to hair loss.

You Got It From Your Mama (or Papa) – some of us get blessed with a gene from our parents that just triggers hair loss through natural, age-related hormonal changes.

Stop Stressing – We all know that stress (and trauma) are no good but they actually up levels of testosterone, which converts to DHT and interrupts the hairs growth cycle. Even worse stress can constrict the blood supply through the capillaries essentially shutting down oxygen and nutrient absorption and vitamins to the hair follicle.

We Are What We Eat – Healthy hair happens when the body has an ample amount of amino acids, iron, protein and zinc, all of which can be depleted with popular protein shake diets plans.

Make Your Health A Priority – For women, they need to be aware that pregnancy, menopause and thyroid disease can all affect the hormonal balance which has hair loss implications.

It’s Environmental – It is hard to control the environmental impact on our hair loss as it seems to be out of our reach. Between the pollutants and toxins in our air and the water we wash our hair with leaving damaging chlorine, metal and minerals on our scalp and hair, we need to take as many precautions as we can.

Pharmaceuticals – It is important to remember that anything that disrupts your hormone levels, including birth control, can affect to thinning hair. Also, steroids, specific chemotherapies and medication for blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and even acne will affect your hair loss.

What Early Warning Signs of Hair Loss to Look For

If you knew early on that you were more susceptible to early hair loss would you live your life differently? I knew that excessive hair loss (say 100 or more hairs) per day would not regrow at the same rate but I was not aware that having too much body hair for a man would lead to early hair loss on the head, did you? In a woman, if we start all of a sudden having an excessive amount of body hair that can also show that there is a hormonal imbalance in play which can cause early hair loss.

Something else that was news to me was that acne and an oily scalp are also indications of hormonal imbalances that could potentially cause premature hair loss.

For me, I think a lot of my hair loss issues happened because of pregnancy, a thyroid issue, low iron and of course stress compounded over time. During that time I was in way over my head and it wasn’t until I got all of the above things under control that I stopped losing handfuls of hair in the bath. Even though I am past the worst of it my hair is still very thin and having a solution like the NIOXIN system in place really makes a lot of difference in my self-esteem and how I go about my daily business.

I had a surgery three years ago and hair loss was a side effect. Then in November of 2018 had an emergency surgery and my hair is stsarting to fall out again but its so thin I can’t afford to lose much. Would love to try this shampoo.

years ago I had psoriasis at my front hairline and it was sore and cracked with some bleeding. Also I was having some hair loss, more than the normal daily loss one gets. At the time I was going though a lot of stress and also was close to menopause. I wasn’t sure which was causing all this but at the time, I owned a hair salon and a salesman came into my shop and introduced me to NIOXIN. Normally I am not sold and it was going to cost me to set up a display to promote the product. I was interested and he gave me several samples of the product. I don’t promote anything unless I have personally tried myself to give an honest opinion. Well, I used it that night and believe me I called him to come back and I wanted it in my salon. My psoriasis on my scalp and skin was clear. No redness, soreness, or no more cracking. And my hair stoped falling out with the treatment. I loved it. I cannot say enough good about this product. Now, just because it worked for me does not mean it would work for everyone. I cannot predict that but without giving it a try, one will never know. After about 6-8 months of use on and off I discontinued use and started using other products. My skin and hair have been ok ever since. Not entering the contest but just had to add how wonderful Nioxin products are. I am retired now after 40 plus years. 🙂

I had short hair for 11years,and now my hair is at my shoulders . Every time I brush my hair or put my fingers through my hair it breaks off. Not sure if this product would help.

I haven’t tried it, but my mother was losing her hair and was told to give Nioxin a try, well it worked great for her, it’s been a few years now and she only uses it once in awhile now, but I would love to give it a try my hair is so fine and thin, and I lose a lot of hair everyday, so hoping something like this would work for me, thanks for the chance!!

In the last year my hair has been really thinning and I am scared. My hair has been my love and the texture, and thickness is not the same. I will run my fingers thru my hair and get a small fine pile of hairs. This has been for a year..as I was sick prior..but it’s not getting better. I am 55 yrs old not that old to lose my darn hair ?

Nioxin sounds amazing! I’m the same as you, I lose clumps of hair in the shower or when I brush my hair and it’s so disturbing. A few years ago I developed a patch of alopecia on my head and I freaked out! It’s not visible to anyone thankfully since I have long hair but I still hate it. It has grown in once and then the hair fell out again. Now it’s growing in for the 2nd time. The frustrating part is that there’s no treatment for it and no known cause. I think mine is likely caused from stress but I have no way to know for sure. I’d love to try Nioxin to see if it would help limit my hair loss and encourage new hair growth!

After having my daughter at 35 my elastic went from barely making it around twice to it being too loose at 3 times around the ponytail. Now she is 16 and it easily does 4. Aging is hard, I’ve lost so much of my hair, I’ve gained a tonne of weight and my eyes are so hooded now that makeup is a waste of time. It would be great to at least get some hair back.

A very interesting post indeed. My hair loss is mainly age related I suspect. I do remember an aunt of mine suddenly had very thinning hair, this was definitely stress related as her daughter had been diagnosed with petit mals and they were continually getting worse and worse.
