The Ultimate Guide to Self-Care for 30-Something Women: Because Adulting Ain't Easy!

As a woman in my 30s, I’ve come to realize that self-care is not just a luxury but a necessity. Gone are the days of late-night partying and waking up feeling refreshed the next morning. Now, a good night’s sleep is worth its weight in gold, and a relaxing bubble bath is the highlight of my week.

So, without further ado, here are some of my favourite self-care practices for women in their 30s:

  1. Take a Social Media Detox

Let’s face it, social media can be a major source of stress and anxiety. The constant barrage of perfect lives and filtered photos can make us feel like we’re not measuring up. So, take a break! Delete those apps for a few days (or even a week) and focus on being present in the moment. Read some of our fave books to help improve our lives.

  1. Get Some Fresh Air

There’s nothing like a good dose of Vitamin D to boost your mood and energy levels. Take a walk, go for a bike ride, or even just sit outside and soak up some rays. Bonus points if you can find a scenic spot to enjoy some nature.

  1. Treat Yourself

Whether it’s a fancy latte, a new pair of shoes, or a massage, don’t be afraid to splurge on yourself once in a while. You work hard, and you deserve it!

  1. Say “No” More Often

As we get older, our schedules tend to get more and more packed. But, it’s okay to say “no” to things that don’t align with your priorities or make you feel overwhelmed. Remember, your time and energy are valuable.

  1. Laugh More

Laughter truly is the best medicine. Whether it’s watching a comedy special, calling up a funny friend, or indulging in some silly TikTok videos, make sure you’re finding moments of joy and laughter in your day.

  1. Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness can be a game-changer when it comes to reducing stress and anxiety. Try incorporating some mindfulness practices into your daily routine, such as meditation, deep breathing, or Yoga. You might find that using supplements, nootropic mushrooms, or a variety of other concentration-enhancers can also help for practicing mindfulness, so those are worth looking into as well.

  1. Connect with Friends

As we get older, it can be easy to lose touch with friends as everyone’s lives get busier. But, don’t forget the importance of human connection. Make an effort to schedule regular catch-ups with your friends (in person or virtually) and keep those relationships strong.

  1. Get Enough Sleep

Sleep is crucial for both physical and mental health. Make sure you’re getting enough restful sleep each night (aim for 7-9 hours) and establish a bedtime routine that helps you wind down and relax.

  1. Find a Hobby

Hobbies are a great way to unwind, de-stress, and have some fun. Whether it’s painting, knitting, or playing video games, find something you enjoy and make time for it regularly.

  1. Practice Gratitude

Gratitude is a powerful tool for boosting happiness and reducing stress. Try starting a gratitude journal, where you write down a few things each day that you’re thankful for.

  1. Move Your Body

Exercise is not only good for physical health but can also help improve mood and reduce stress. Find a form of exercise you enjoy, whether it’s dancing, hiking, or yoga, and make it a regular part of your routine.

  1. Learn to Say “Yes” to Help

As women, we often feel like we have to do it all and be everything to everyone. But, it’s okay to ask for help when we need it. Whether it’s asking a friend to watch your kids for a few hours or hiring a cleaning service, don’t be afraid to say “yes” to help.

  1. Indulge in Some Comfort Food

Let’s be real, sometimes a bowl of mac and cheese or a slice of pizza is just what the doctor ordered. Don’t be too hard on yourself for indulging in some comfort food once in a while. Check out these fast and easy meal ideas.

  1. Set Boundaries

Boundaries are essential for protecting your time and energy. Whether it’s setting work hours, turning off your phone after a certain time, or saying “no” to toxic relationships, make sure you’re setting boundaries that serve you.

  1. Take a Mental Health Day

Sometimes, we just need a break. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a mental health day and prioritize self-care. Do whatever makes you feel relaxed and recharged, whether it’s binge-watching your favourite show or getting a massage.

16. Start addressing your worst habits

Many of us have some habits that aren’t great for us. It might be indulging in the food we shouldn’t a little too often, it might be having a drink more than once in a while, or it might be something more dangerous still. Taking steps to address those habits, whether it’s by tracking your eating habits through a nutritional diary or even getting help with a pet-friendly drug and alcohol rehab, is not only an investment in your health. It can also improve your mental health, you can start to feel better about yourself simply by knowing you’re taking steps towards a healthier you.

So, there you have it, my fellow 30-something women. These self-care practices may not solve all of life’s problems, but they can certainly make the journey a little more enjoyable. Remember to laugh, take care of yourself, and embrace the ups and downs of adulting.
