It’s freezing out, my heat is blasting to keep the house a balmy 25 degrees, and the air is so dry. It’s not only wreaking havoc on my skin but it’s making an even bigger, more embarrassing problem flare up—my psoriasis.

Psoriasis is a skin condition that appears as patches of dry skin that are itchy and sometimes flake. For me, it feels like an extra layer or two of skin on top of my own. When I scratch to try and get some relief sometimes not only the large flakes come off—my hair comes off with it.

Psoriasis is bad enough for most people but I am a picker, meaning scabs and dry skin are a real soft spot for me, and I often sit there aimlessly trying to itch my head for some relief. Sometimes it even bleeds and I am glad for the ‘mom bun’ to deal with that mess. It totally sucks but, I am lucky enough that it’s pretty minimal as long as I keep my stress down and take care of myself.

There is no cure for psoriasis because the belief is that it is an autoimmune disorder. However, I recently round relief thanks to Dermakalm’s Psoriasis Scalp Gel.

The Psoriasis Scalp Gel is made with a gentle formulation that goes right to work at temporarily decreasing the severity of psoriasis symptoms like itching and scaling. The gel is free of corticosteroids, fragrances, coal tar, sulphur, salicylic acid and artificial colouring. It’s gentle, non-greasy and non-staining. The gel needs to be applied to parted hair so that it can go to work directly on the scalp. I really like that the bottle lets you get a precise application without putting too much product on because you don’t actually need a lot, making it cost effective as well.

If you suffer from scalp psoriasis you can pick up Dermakalm Psoriasis Scalp Gel at most major pharmacies. Make sure you print off your $5 off coupon before heading to the store!

sounds like a great product to have especially this time of year! everyone always thinks of the skin like their face and hands but forget about other things that can be effected from the dryness in the air such as our scalp

Years ago, I too had Psoriasis on the front part of my scalp at the hairline just above my eyebrows. It itched, got scaby, red, cracked, and sore. As a hairdresser at the time, (now retired) a salesman came into my salon and was introducing a product and I was not interested UNTIL he mentioned about hair loss and how soothing the hair therapy and hair treatment was to the scalp….SO I thought OK I will give this a try. I also was having some hair loss which is what the products was for. The regimen was to help grow back hair and for hair loss. I bought a whole retail line and was so glad I did. I used the shampoo, hair therapy (a eucalyptus based conditioner) and the hair treatment. It worked for me overnight. I was amazed and shocked it worked that fast!!! May not do the trick for ALL people with this condition but for me it did. So naturally I was sold. Scabs were gone..no more sores, no itch. And after a few treatments no more extra hair loss. I have not heard of the above product but am surely interested in it. I will check it out and I hope you can get relief from this. Not a condition to take lightly.

Is psoriasis of the scalp the same as dandruff?

I’m lucky in that I have never had Psoriasis, however one of my daughters did, luckily it seems to have gone now but it was really painful when she had it. Having thick curly hair didn’t help either. She was given a mixed cream containing zinc that helped but whether that was what cured it I don’t know.

I haven’t used this product, but I’ve tried others by this company and quite liked them!
