Parenting is not for the faint of heart. Parenting hurts and heals all at the same time. It has the power to lift you up at your weakest and bring you crashing down when you are your most confident. In all honesty, parenting is raw. Sharing 50 truths about parenting so that you know we all get caught up in it.

  1. It is trading in girls night out for cuddles from the family.
  2. It is re-thinking your lifestyle choices so that you can spend more time with your children.
  3. It is watching hopelessly as your children get hurt, both emotionally and physically, so that they can learn from their choices.
  4. It is the reason you wake every morning.
  5. It is the reason you stay up late at night so that you can finally get some time to unwind from the constant touching.
  6. It is the reason you worry…endlessly.
  7. It is the reason why you share each and every accomplishment that your offspring achieved (no matter how gross) to family, friends and even the stranger at the grocery store. 
  8. It is the reason why so many plans are made.
  9. It is the very same reason why plans are cancelled because of tummy’s that hurt or babysitters that bailed.
  10. It is the reason why no matter how amazing your day went, you will lay awake feeling like a failure and hashing out ALL THE WAYS you could have been better.
  11. It is wiping away their tears.
  12. It is hiding your own tears.
  13. It is trying to do the best by them.
  14. It is trying to not give them too much so that they don’t end up spoiled and entitled.
  15. It is putting them first.
  16. It is putting yourself last, even though you know you should be putting yourself first sometimes.
  17. It is being present in their life.
  18. It is working long hours so that they can have this amazing life.
  19. It is taking them to the park so that they can play.
  20. It is spending time replying to e-mails while they go up and down the slide.
  21. It is screaming for your kids to give you some peace and quiet.
  22. It is going to check up on them when it is too quiet.
  23. It is losing your cool and flipping out about all of their stuff being on the floor by the door.
  24. It is choosing your battles carefully so that you can keep your cool.
  25. It is reading up on experts opinions.
  26. It is trusting your gut first and foremost.
  27. It is getting into a routine that works.
  28. It is throwing caution to the wind and starting a whole new routine.
  29. It is being a good role model.
  30. It is accepting that your kids will want to be nothing like you.
  31. It is showing love even when they least deserve it.
  32. It is endless amounts of unconditional love in return.
  33. It is having your heart in someone else’s body.
  34. It is someone else’s heart in your hands.
  35. It is catching puke in your hand all while rubbing little backs.
  36. It is blowouts that make you want to invest in baby wipes.
  37. It is kissing sick babies to make them feel better.
  38. It is those same kisses getting you sick without a break in site.
  39. It is sweet kisses.
  40. It is tough love.
  41. It is hugs at the most unexpected times.
  42. It is kids in your bed.
  43. It is you in your kids’ beds.
  44. It is endless piles of laundry.
  45. It is toys scattered all over your house.
  46. It is bathroom floors that are covered in bathwater.
  47. It is watching extensions of yourself tell you they hate you.
  48. It is wondering what you got yourself into.
  49. It is joy beyond your wildest imagination.
  50. It is raw. It is real. It is the BEST thing you will ever do. PERIOD

    Ha loved this list! Parenting really brings out the adult in us and we do things we never could have imagined. Parenting is so #50!
