Lego Dimensions: Everything is Awesome, Right?

I liked to think of myself of a reformed gamer. Liked to. I am now sneaking away from life to play Lego Dimensions on the kids WII U…I have basically gone back to being a kid. I am not complaining but hubby is getting pretty annoyed that I take “breaks” from the family.

Until he came and locked himself in our bedroom to see what was going on. He now takes breaks himself. You know what they say–“You can’t pour from an empty cup”–and we have been running on empty for far too long.

One of the big things I found about having kids and growing up is that we gave up a lot of the things that we enjoyed, like playing video games or watching trashy talk shows. You just can’t do that with kids around and let’s be honest hiding for the kids only lasts as long as it takes them to realize you are hiding, which is not long.

We are at a segue in parenting. Our oldest two are old enough to take care of most of their essential needs, including entertainment. Our youngest two, although not babies, still need us to amuse them and keep them alive. This means that kids #1 & #2 also take some timeouts from the hustle and bustle of our home and sneak away to play WII U. Our house is loud, and busy, and I get that they need some peace and quiet so we have set up a quiet haven in our bedroom with their WII U our new Hisense TV.

So here is the thing. I really thought that the Lego Dimensions game/system were going to be perfect for my 8-year-old son. It had everything going for it including the almost 300 piece Lego set you had to put together before you could even move onto the game. But we built that baby together with some quality mom/son time and I became invested in the whole process. I was committed.  And so we played…and played…and we just keep on playing because this game is AWESOME–EVERYTHING IS AWESOME. (Song from the Lego Movie which will make sense in 20 seconds).

PHEW! So we have the starter kit that comes with Batman and his Batmobile, Wyldstyle and Gandalf. They each have their own powers and you can use all 4 pieces in the game by placing them on the game pad. This year Lego Dimensions came out with expansion packs that will not only give you new characters and vehicles, but also new levels. Every character has their own powers and you can add them on whenever you need them.

We have come to parts where having more pieces would have made the game easier to do but we have worked our way around them otherwise. This is the first game my daughter has really excelled at on the WII U. She is figuring out the puzzles and learning how to get through the levels on her own. Soon she may not even want to share with her mom :/

I want to say that this game is just for kids but it’s not. It’s a good all around family game (two people can play simultaneously) and since it comes for PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, it is one that can be easily added to any home. Also, right now it is on sale for most of these systems for 50% off on Amazon so make sure you check it out.

Whenever I see, read or hear about legos they bring back so many fun happy memories of when my boy was just little… He would sit for hours and hours playing and making so many different things and legos were always one thing I could buy a a surprise or gift that I knew he would love and play with forever. After he had a son I boxed up all the legos I still had that I saved to give to my grandson and he too loved playing with them… they are so intertaining and kids learn a lot just by making things with them…. I love legos!!!

This is the first time that I have heard of this. My boys would have a blast with this. I think that I will add it to our Xmas list.
