We got Covid. It doesn’t matter how or when just that we got it. A family of six that all got it within 5 days of each other and survived the hell that was the big C. I want to share some of the things we did or took that really helped us manage our symptoms and get better as soon as possible.

I do want to mention that our symptoms ranged from a bad cold to a severe case of the flu where body aches and migraines ruled supreme. We had NO respiratory issues. If you are having trouble breathing please seek out medical help. I am also obviously not a doctor so if you need medical help seek it out from a doctor or medical professional.

What Worked For Us When We Got Covid

That being said, these are the medicinal and non-medicinal things we took that made us feel better when we had Covid

Buckley’s Complete – It may taste horrible but it was so good at making us feel better. It helped us with cough, sore throat pain, headache, nasal congestion, fever & chills, sinus congestion, body aches & pains but it is only good for ages 12 and above. Purchase Buckley’s Complete HERE. You can also purchase it as capsules HERE.

Dayquil and Nyquil – It’s been a long time since I had it in the fluid form and I am also not a huge fan of the taste BUT it was so good at treating all of our symptoms AND it made the migraine subside for a few hours. I wouldn’t have been able to get any relief without it for the first 48 hours. Purchase Nyquil Liquid. You can also purchase a combo pack of capsules HERE

Vicks Vicks Nyquil Cold & Flu Origin, count

Tylenol Children’s Liquid – Both of my youngest kids had symptoms that differed like night and day but both felt better with Tylenol Children’s Liquid. We used this for the day because it doesn’t last as long as Advil. You can purchase it here.

Tylenol Children's Liquid for Fever and Pain Relief, Berry Flavour, Dye Free, 100 mL Acetaminophen for Headache Pain, Muscle Ache Pain

Children’s Advil Dye-Free Grape – This was our go-to during the night because it’s good for up to 8 hours of relief. It allowed us and our kids to get a good night’s sleep to recuperate as well as we did. Get yours here.

Vitamins

Lil Critters Multivitamins – We loved these multi-vitamins for both adults and kids. They come in a gummy formulation and taste really good. I have learned that it doesn’t matter how good of a vitamin I may think I bought, if we don’t like the taste we won’t eat them. We bought ours at Costco but you can get your kid ones here.

Vitamin D3 1,000 IU Spray – I love this Vitamin D3 because it comes in a liquid format that is easy to take for the whole family. You can get yours here.

Vitamin C with Zinc – Anytime we feel like our immune system is going to get worked over we start with vitamin C with zinc. These chewable lozenges are tasty and easy to consume. Get yours here.

Emergen-C Drink Packages – We always have these on hand and they were an easy way to get more good stuff in us. I like the effervescent nature of this and they are easy to customize to meet everyone’s palate. Get yours here.

CBD – I spoke to a family member that was also sick when we were and she took CBD to deal with the body aches. CBD does not get you high but it is very effective at pain relief. You can order yours through a local dispensary or online here.

Manuka Honey – Manuka honey is said to help soothe coughs and sore throats. We used it on days when we found our throats were hurting and it instantly coated and helped with the pain. It is pretty expensive but lasts a long time. Get yours here.

Warm tea base – When we first started getting sick I took 500 ml of Canadian honey and grated a large chunk of peeled ginger into it. I also juiced lemons and had them in a glass jar in our fridge. It was so important for us to continually drink warm fluids (not hot) and we would scoop a tablespoon of the honey & ginger mixture into a mug and top it with warm water and lemon. It helped with the phlegm and itchiness of our throats as well as all our coughing.

To wrap things up, although all six of us had wildly different symptoms and experiences, we all found relief when we paid attention to our symptoms and treated them. There was no one-fits-all treatment plan. I really want to stress that our symptoms were nowhere near needing to be hospitalized so these over-the-counter meds and vitamins were enough for us. Please get medical help if you need it and can’t get relief with the meds you are taking.

Lastly, if you have had Covid please comment below with items that helped you get better. I am already prepping my medicine cabinet back up in case we catch it again and need all the help I can get.

My husband and myself both tested positive and it is knocking the crap right out of me, I have a burning throat, bad headache, the chills and I even had a fever of 102. Wed. morning really scared me though I couldn’t breathe and it lasted for about 10 minutes. I called the Dr.’s office to see if he could put me on some antibiotics and he said there is nothing to take, that we just need to ride it out, so I have been taking Tylenol cold and Flu and Advil Cold and Flu and sucking on honey drops, today marks the 5th day I have been sick and I just want it to be gone already. And yes I had my flu shot and 2 vaccines and I still got it, it’s not nice at all

Many of the items above helped my family and friends; they had varying degrees of COVID from being asymptomatic to hospitalization (for a night due to trouble breathing – for an elder individual). The one persistent thing that came through from them all was: rest/sleep when needed, watch the symptoms and don’t try to be a hero and hot showers and baths to help congestion. I don’t believe I have had COVID, but I could have just been asymptomatic.

Lots of products to help relieve symptoms and get you through this illness. Hoping I don’t get Covid but influenza seems bad this year.
