Tips for Keeping Your Home Cool When It’s Hot

We all love the heat, we love the sun shining down on us, and generally, people are a lot happier when it’s sunny. The only time we don’t like it is in our home, as there is nothing worse than relaxing in a property that is too hot – or trying to sleep when your home is boiling.

There are a few tricks that you can do to keep your home cool when it’s hot. You could look into home air services as well as keeping your curtains drawn to keep out the heat. It’s also worth noting that when the weather is hotter outside than it is in, keep your windows drawn as opening them allows the outside heat to come in, causing your home to feel hotter.

Below, we have put together a brief guide on tips for keeping your home cool when it’s hot.

Keep windows covered during the day

The simplest thing to do to keep your home cooler is to block out any direct sunlight. A lot of heat can come through your windows, especially if the sun is shining directly on them. By keeping your blinds or curtains drawn during the day, you can keep that heat out, which will help keep your home cooler. If you can’t keep them drawn all the time, try to do it during peak sun hours

Open windows at night

When it’s hot outside, if you open your windows, it will allow that heat to flow through into your home, heating up the inside. Instead, keep your windows closed during the day and open them up at night. At night, the air is often colder, which will help cool your home down. If you can place fans near windows to help draw in fresh air and push warm air out.

Limit heat-producing activities

Appliances like ovens, hobs, dishwashers, and dryers produce a lot of heat. When these are on, this heat gets pushed around your home, causing it to feel hotter and uncomfortable (during the summer months). Try to avoid using them during the hottest parts of the day and, if possible, not use them at all. A good alternative is to cook on your BBQ outside, as this will not heat up your home, and the food will taste different – BBQ burgers always taste the best. Another good option is to cook foods which don’t need heating, such as preparing a tasty salad or having a sandwich. Salads are always good for feeding families, and you can produce a lot, but without having to spend a lot of money – some only need a few ingredients, but taste great!

Keep trying different things and see which ones help make your home a little cooler when it’s hot. What do you recommend to help keep your home cooler at night and during the day?
