tacoWhen you have a family as large as ours there are always go-to meals that we focus on because they make all of us happy and for us it’s Taco Tuesdays. We make a giant spread and all pick and choose what we want eat. There have never been tears when tacos were on the menu.

We make a big deal over our meals as a time to catch up on what happened with the kids at school. When they are happy and smiling it’s a lot easier for them to spill the beans on the ups and downs of elementary school life.taco

Life can be cruel in their little world so we savour the moments together solving issues that come up as a family. I think they enjoy it as well. Taking turns talking about our day is like a therapy we didn’t know we needed and I wouldn’t change it for anything.

“Nacho” Ordinary Taco

You want to get kids to eat their food? Give them a selection, let them make the decision, and go with the flow. Let them help you cook and shred and set the table. Let them be involved. Let them feel special.

A ate this whole bowl of rice as the filling for her Tortilla Bowls…but she ate #success

Tacos are one of those foods that have opened up a world of new opportunities for our kids. Lettuce has always been taboo until the kids had it on tacos. My son could eat a whole head in one sitting now because he tried something new and liked it. Ditto for my older daughter and black beans. She now pouts if there is no legumes on our table. They especially love these fish tacos from British Columbia Mom that are ready in under 30 mins.

OLD EL PASO Tortilla Bowls

We are a soft taco crew and always will be but the kids have always worn half of their dinner on their clothes. No matter how we wrapped them and placed them gently in their hands they somehow ended up picking up random bits of cheese and guac off their pants. Not anymore though.

Today’s Taco Tuesday included the OLD EL PASO Tortilla Bowls where we could each load up our faves into the handy-dandy bowls. I knew that these would be a hit before I even got them into my hands because I am the one who has to do laundry. Dinner went into the littles tummy’s this time 🙂

As our meal was winding down I asked my family what they thought of the bowls and the unanimous decision was that they would be purchased again. I think they liked that we didn’t have to help them roll anything up (no offense to regular tortillas).

I think what I like most about these is the versatility though. While the regular sized bowls were perfect for dinner I realized that the mini ones were perfect as little two-bite taco appetizers. You could load them up with whatever you pleased and they would be a hit at get-togethers.

Let’s “Taco” Bout the Guac

Guacamole is one of my favourite foods and I always make too much on purpose so I can snack on it without feeling guilty at night. This recipe is so simple and I like it super chunky so that its more of a topping than spread.

We’ve never tried these, but they look good! My husband prefers soft over hard too. I’d love to make my own guacamole, I’ve never done that before – and the good thing is that I won’t be buying a big container that gets thrown out as I’m the only one that eats it! Thanks!
