This week I got to head into Handan Erol’s Toronto Spa for some self-care and pampering…for my husband. Although I was originally going to self-care the shit out of myself I realized that my husband would benefit way more from her treatment. Ain’t nothing wrong with a man who wants to look good.

What is Botulinum Toxin Used For?

Botulinum toxins are neurotoxins that cause a temporary weakening of the muscles and decrease/improve fine lines and wrinkles.  There are four brands of neurotoxins; Botox, Xeomin, Dysport and Nuceiva. They all essentially do the same thing. Dosing can be a little different for each brand. 

Botox can be used for horizontal forehead lines, 11s (lines between eyebrows), crows feet, bunny lines, chin dimpling, lip flip and masseter muscle to give a slimming effect of the face or prevent teeth clenching. 

Botox works best for dynamic lines. These are lines and wrinkles that show only when we smile or move our muscles. When we relax the muscle, those lines do not show with facial expressions. However, static lines, which are lines that show even at rest, can be harder to treat with botox. It can reduce the appearance of the line but will not get rid of it completely. Botox is therefore used mostly for the prevention of deep lines and wrinkles. 

Botox lasts for an average of 3 months. After that, our muscles start to regain their function and botox treatment will need to be repeated.

Botox can be used for excessive sweating as well by blocking the sweat glands. A higher number of units are used for sweating. Therefore, results last up to 6 months.

PRP is a procedure where we take the client’s blood and spin it in a centrifuge to obtain platelet-rich plasma. The platelets and growth factors in the plasma play an important role in healing. When PRP is injected into the scalp for hair restoration, it prevents hair loss, makes existing hair stronger and can promote new hair growth. When PRP is injected under the eyes, it can correct dark circles and decrease puffiness.

PRP can also be paired with micro-needling treatments to improve acne scarring, decrease pore size, and improve the overall texture of the skin and hyperpigmentation. At least three sessions are recommended for optimal results.

What is Microneedling Used For?
