6 Reasons School Uniforms are Great

If you are on the fence about whether you are for or against school uniforms you need to read on. As someone who has gone to schools with and without a uniform policy, I happily send my children to school each morning wearing uniforms. Check out these 7 reasons school uniforms are great and let me know if I missed anything.

7 Reasons School Uniforms are Great

I am a huge fan of uniforms for children in schools for a few reasons.

  1. Easy mornings When the kids wake up in the morning they don’t have to think about what to wear. They each put on a navy pair of pants and a shirt and come down for breakfast.
  2. No judgement I really appreciate that when everyone in the school is wearing the same clothes it really cuts down on judgement — at least the type that is tied to the type of clothes they wear.
  3. Safer Since my kids go to a school where everyone wears uniforms it is extremely easy to see if someone is there that is not supposed to be.
  4. Less expensive There are a lot of retailers in Canada that provide school uniforms at a great price. I can usually do 7 outfits each for 3 kids for between $200-$300. I don’t think I will need to buy that many new outfits this year as we have a lot of last years pieces that are still in great shape.
  5. Promotes unity When all the kids are dressed the same I feel like it helps them to work as a team and see themselves as one unit.
  6. Promotes individuality I know everyone looking the same may seem like the opposite of promoting individuality but I find the students focus more on being themselves and shining brightly for their actions instead of what they are wearing.
  7. You can resell If you buy higher quality pieces and take care of them you can easily resell them to recoup some of your costs.

The thing I like best about uniforms is that the kids are dressed up and no one dresses up anymore

No need to buy a lot of regular clothes if the schools have uniforms

I never would have thought about it promoting individuality but I get it! Smart! I desperately wish that all schools would adopt uniforms. We can’t afford private school and the peer pressure is huge issue for my daughter.

I am a fan of uniforms having had my kids in schools with and without. My problem is the costs of some can be pretty high at first. As long as they are simple and not allowed to be altered they work. Saves money for nicer clothes for after school . do like the uniforms in the photos they look great and would be easy to care for..

Wearing a uniform to school means that no one can tell which family has more or less, which in turn means that everyone is equally accepted which is a big plus in my book. It certainly worked well in the school I attended, though our uniforms were definitely stricter, with the school emblem on them which did make them more expensive to buy. This however was countered by those who couldn’t afford them getting financial aid to buy them.
