We first fell in love with these robots at a holiday event earlier this year so we were pretty excited to get our hands on them at home and really see what they could do. So excited to give HEXBUG’S VEX Balancing Boxing Bots two thumbs up for a great holiday gift.

HEXBUG’S VEX Balancing Boxing Bots

This set comes with two self-stabilizing boxers but they come in 600+ pieces and it takes a little bit of work to get these guys built. My oldest two kids and I started off around 8 PM to try and get these robots built but I totally underestimated how long it would take. While I worked on one robot the kids worked on the other and after 5 hours we fell asleep with two robots that had no head or arms. After a couple of hours of solo building the next morning I was happy to pass the robots off to my kids.

At age 9 and 10, my kids could not be trusted to follow the instructions well enough to build these robots on their own. This is not necessarily a bad thing it just means that this toy is suited for either a child that has some experience building Hex products or one that has a parent eager to help.

I didn’t mind the one-on-two time with the kids while their younger siblings slept so the VEX Balancing Boxing Bots set was totally worth the work and if you’re a parent who loved putting together LEGO growing up you’ll love these. It’s surprising how much kids open up when they’re focusing on getting little pegs in the right holes.

As for battling, my kids have decided they would rather drive them around instead of fighting them. I think building these bots made them get really attached.

Once you pair the robots to your phone or tablet through the VEX Pilot app it’s pretty amazing to watch how responsive 300 tiny little parts can be when powered by the 6 AA batteries it takes.

I think if you have a child who is into building things, robotics, science and tech this HEXBUG’S VEX Battling Boxing Robots set is an amazing gift. I am looking into a way we could display these in my son’s room while he’s not playing with them because they are quite the accomplishment and really fun to play with.

This is a fabulous idea for the older kiddos. My daughters are still to young for this one but what a great way to have children follow direction/instructions and build something themselves!

These look like a lot of fun, and looks like it would take some time as well putting them all together, great toy for the older kids!

I think these are amazing and I think my grandsons would really like them but at 10 and 11 they are still too rough in their play. I know that isn’t so of all kids, but I wouldn’t want to give these two a toy that costs over $200, especially one that says they’re made for fighting right on the box, lol. I actually think my 15 year old daughter would appreciate this more!
