Halifax Boardwalk: Full of Amazing Places to Visit

Being as Halifax is located on the water you can bet we spent most of our time exploring the boardwalk. After breakfast, we would either walk down from the Lord Nelson Hotel where we were staying or drive if we were particularly full.

The Halifax Boardwalk

First thing first, if you are in Halifax you HAVE TO check out The Bicycle Thief restaurant. It says it’s “North American Food with Italian Soul” but it can only be classified as delicious. So good that I ate not only my own but finished my sister’s and mom’s plates (they pulled the diet card) and then ordered two dishes to go so that hubby and the kids could eat it too. It was so good that I didn’t even get a chance to take a picture of the dishes before I dug in so I tweeted to them and they sent me these shots. Look delicious right? (I tried these items out on our visit so I am vouching for them)

Another must have for us was a visit to the East Coast Lifestyle flagship store at the Seaport. Following them on social media and drooling over their great pieces I knew they would be the perfect souvenir of our time in Halifax. Service was great and the whole family got outfitted in new gear. Our son has been wearing this hat and jacket every day and I wish we had bought him a sweater so that we could at least have something to give him while we send the jacket out to be cleaned. As of now, he refuses to give it up.

The day after my sister’s wedding we were hungover AF. It was only fitting that we stumbled into the Garrison Brewery for some beer sampling and a light reboot to our day. The decor was fitting with the environment and I will leave you with the knowledge that all the beers got our seal of approval.

The big yachts. I don’t know who owns this yacht but we all decided that it is pretty awesome. That is all I have to say about this.

Whale watching with Murphy’s the Cable Wharf.  I left my sister’s wedding rehearsal to go on the whale watching tour. I was anticipating seeing some really amazing things (whales, seals, dolphins OH MY!) and I saw 2 lobsters instead. I can now tell you without a doubt whether a lobster is a female or male because I have been shown lobster privates but there were no bigger animals. Why I still recommend it though? For two and a half hours we spent cruising around Halifax Harbour and out in the ocean, we got an amazing lesson on the history of Halifax as well as the surrounding area. Our tour guide was informative and funny and the boat sold booze for us adults and hot chocolate for the kids.

There is so much to do and see that I really think a return trip is in our future. For now, though we will go through our pictures and hold onto our memories.

Halifax is such a beautful city… but be sure to visit in the summer because their winter weather can be really bad!

Great post! Love the pictures and appreciate you sharing your families experience. We are planning a trip out East this summer. We have booked our accommodations but we’re still working out our daily activities and recommended places to eat. The Bicycle Thief restaurant looks like it’s a winner. Thanks for the tips!

I have always wanted to visit the East Coast! It is on my bucket list… along with Quebec City! I went whale watching in Tofino once and we didn’t see any whales either – actually it has happened in Victoria too, I love the rest of the trip too but it is an awfully expensive little joy ride if you don’t get to see them and that is what you went for! BTW, the look on your face is priceless!

If you loved Halifax you need to go to Cape Breton Island. It is a trip everyone should do.
