DIY Whipped Body Butter: Great Gift Idea

DIY vanilla & cocoa body butter

This easy DIY whipped body butter is perfect for gifting this holiday season, or for keeping all to yourself! With the temperature dropping the air in my home is DRY, and hot, and with my pregnant skin starting to stretch, I need all the moisturizing I can get.

There are many ways to get the shea and cocoa butter and I suggest you spend some time looking for inexpensive options. I was seeing upwards of $100 for a kilogram of each delivered to my house and ended up, after some research, finding an small GTA company who delivered withing 12 hours for only $45. And they delivered within 12 hours of ordering, awesome service.

I had my kids help me with this as it is pretty easy once it is melted and hardened again. They really enjoyed whipping it up and watching it transform from a chunk of hardened oil into the luxurious finished product. Not only does it look delicious it also smells divine. The cocoa butter smells like chocolate and since I used my homemade vanilla infused coconut oil for this they claimed the finished product left them smelling like chocolate chip cookies, no complaints over here.

If you are looking for an effective and easy recipe to soothe and nurture your skin, look no further. Enjoy!

Cocoa & Vanilla Body Butter

You Will Need:

2 Cups of Shea Butter
2 cups of Cocoa Butter
2 cups of Coconut Oil-I used my Vanilla Infused Coconut Oil
2 Cups of Almond Oil (or any other carrier oil you choose)

Hand Mixer or Stand Mixer
Containers to store your finished body butterMetal Bowl and a pot or any double boiler

Directions:

Measure out equal parts of the 4 oils and butters. I had four-2 cup containers to fill so I did 2 cups of each

Put all oils and butters into a metal bowl

Put metal bowl over a boiling pot of water to melt the oils/butters together. Mine took around 5 minutes to get into a fully liquid state.

When melted remove from heat and take the bowl off of the pot. Be careful the oil is extremely hot and so is the bowl.

I ran the pot under cold water to cool it down and than added ice and cold water to it. I put the hot bowl of oil directly on top of the pot of ice water, being careful not to put water in the pot and speeding up the cooling process.

Once the oil had cooled enough to be easily handled and I could see a small layer of hardened butter at the bottom of the bowl I put it in my fridge and took a nap.

I let it sit for a couple of hours and it was hardened completely.

This is the fun part, get out your hand mixer and start whipping this hard mass up. Be careful you don’t splatter this everywhere as it is oil. Scrape down the sides of the bowl and whip again to make sure there is no chunks in the final product.

Put in your containers and I put mine back the fridge to harden up again.

Voila!
