Cars 3 Soundtrack: Music For the Whole Family

Cars 3 is out today which also means that the Cars 3 soundtrack is making its debut.

Music has long been something that I have found comfort in. I remember when my parents got me my first radio and I used to sit there listening to the radio with my fingers planted on the record button waiting patiently to make myself a mixtape of some of my favourite songs.

As I grew older and discovered the library I would spend hours listening to soundtracks of movies, reliving my favourite parts, singing along. My parents fueled my love of music by having a large, varied collection that they would play often. We try to have the same atmosphere in our home today.

Between my husband and I, our music tastes are as varied as they come. Add in the new music the kids are listening too and our house is an eclectic mix of old and new favourites. The best though is when an obvious classic gets remade so the kids enjoy while we stroll down memory lane–wait we’re not that old.cars 3 soundtrack

Cars 3

The Cars franchise was the first big obsession in our lives as parents. My oldest watched it religiously, we watched it religiously with him, and every birthday, holiday and favourite outfit was either Lightning McQueen or Mater. My oldest still refuses to get rid of any of his Cars toys, Mater is now passed onto our youngest, and tonight we have a date at the movie theatre to see the New Cars 3 movie.

Its not often we find a movie that the whole family will enjoy, even less often that we like a whole trilogy, but Cars has a place in our hearts. Filled with lessons on friendship, never giving up and straight up good times, it is a winner in our books.

Cars 3 Soundtrack

With the release of the new Cars 3 movie comes the Cars 3 Soundtrack to listen to at home. The soundtrack takes old faves and revamps them with new covers and two bonus tracks not included in the movie. The kids won’t even know that they are enjoying songs we jammed to when we were younger.

Covers include

  • “Kings Highway,” originally released in 1991 by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, covered by 23-year-old British singer-songwriter James Bay
  • Bruce Springsteen’s 1984 hit “Glory Days” covered by Grammy®-nominated performer Andra Day, who voices Sweet Tea in the film
  • *The Beatles’ classic 1965 song “Drive My Car” covered by Hollywood Records artist Jorge Blanco.
  •  *“Freeway of Love,” made famous in 1985 by Aretha Franklin, covered by actress Lea DeLaria, who also provides the voice of Miss Fritter, a school bus-turned-demolition-derby-queen in “Cars 3.”

So if you have not already made the decision to see the Cars 3 movie set up a date and pick up the soundtrack while you are at it…it promises to keep both young kids and parents entertained.

I’ve not seen Cars 3 movie but I did like the others. I’m not a music fan but my grandchildren have the new songs from Disney movies off by heart in no time at all. 🙂
