AncestryDNA: An Easy Glimpse into Your Past

This post is in partnership with AncestryDNA and Ancestry.ca. All thoughts are 100% our own.

Maya Angelou once said, “You can’t really know where you are going until you know where you have been.” These holidays, give the gift of history with either an AncestryDNA kit or a subscription to Ancestry.ca (or both).

AncestryDNA for the Holidays

I’ve personally always been curious about my roots. As a child of divorce and also an immigrant to Canada, I find it super hard to connect with my beginnings or unearth any information about my life prior to Canada.

Our holidays visits with family may be in limbo this year but I think I have found a way for my kids and I to still feel that connection to our loved ones with AncestryDNA and Ancestry’s family history subscription Ancestry.ca.

AncestryDNA ($129 but currently on sale for $89)

Honestly, I think a consumer DNA kit like AncestryDNA is the perfect gift for everyone on your list. There, I said it. Currently sitting at $40 off I think there is no better gift than self-discovery. The test uncovers your ethnic mix, lost family members and even lets you see your family’s unique history. To date, more than 18 million people have used the service and the database keeps growing as the years pass.

AncestryDNA is available at www.ancestry.ca.

Ancestry.ca Subscription (starting at $14.99 per month)

What I love about the Ancestry.ca subscription as a gift your family and friends is that it can be used in conjunction with your DNA kit or as a standalone. You can easily search through historical worldwide records and build online family trees. It’s a great place to keep information and I love how it allows you can easily find how your ancestors lived, when they arrived in Canada, and even if they served in the military.

Ancestry gift subscriptions are available to purchase at www.ancestry.ca.

I am personally still in the waiting portion of my journey but once I get my results and get my tree filled out I will update this post with my experience.

Giveaway

Ancestry has graciously offered one Home With Aneta reader the opportunity to win an AncestryDNA kit with an Ancestry.ca subscription as well. This contest is only open to Canadian residents and ends December 14, 2020. Good Luck!

Where it says “comment on this blog post” it doesn’t reveal that there is a subject required until after you click on it. Please disregard my previous post. I can’t delete it. I’ve give the kit to my neighbour since I already did mine.

I once was told that I had family members, from my dad’s side of the family, living in the States & Europe. I would use the Kit for myself in hopes of maybe connecting with one or two of them. I really believe that one’s history is important to know, & knowing your Ancestry just may clear-up a lot of unanswered questions lingering in the back of your mind.
