Aladdin: Old vs New + Giveaway

Aladdin: Old vs New + Giveaway

We received both of these movies from Disney Canada. All thoughts and opinions are our own.

Aladdin was one of the first movies I watched when I was a child and had just immigrated to Canada. Back in the day when VHS reigned supreme and you had to wait patiently while the tape rewound to the beginning, Aladdin had me imagining faraway lands and flying carpets.

When I found out there was going to be a remake of one of my fave Disney films I was a bit skeptical that it could live up to the original, especially since I love, love, love Robin Williams as Genie.

This week we dove into the new Aladdin DVD and were immediately oohing and ahhing over the bright colours and vivid imagery. If you were thinking that there was no way the new one could fill the original versions shoes, it could fit whopping thigh-high galoshes.

The songs were so clear and easy to understand and I actually realized I had totally made up a lot of the words from the original, whoops. Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott did a truly heartwarming performance and they really brought the characters of Aladdin and Jasmine to life. If you enjoy a great musical number, astounding wardrobe and a tale of true love you will not be disappointed in the new Aladdin, even if you already think you know it from the original. Totally worth watching and you will, over and over again.

This is not to win a copy; just a general remark about the Aladdin movies. I loved them too as a child… I remember watching the original in the theater and being enraptured.
