5 Things My Fitbit Doesn’t Track & Why I Still Think Its Awesome

Fitbit

Guess who jumped on the Fitbit bandwagon? This chick. Although, I never paid much attention to them before I am taking part in a 30-for-30 challenge this month and I was getting green with envy over the other participants Fitbit achievements and challenges. So I did what any person in my position would do and gifted myself one for Mother’s Day. A girl gotta do what a girl gotta do 😉

After waiting patiently for three days for my Fitbit Charge to arrive it finally came late one evening. Hardest part ever was waiting for it to fully charge before using it but it gave me a chance to set stuff up online. The first evening was a bust because I only managed to get a few thousand steps in. Didn’t stop me from checking every two minutes and syncing up with my phone so all my not so fabulous stats were available for my friends to see as well.

5 Things my Fitbit Doesn’t Think are Worthy of Tracking

The next day though I was ready to rock it and see what my most effective ways to get major steps in. Instead, I discovered what the Fitbit doesn’t track.

  1. It doesn’t count my steps when pushing three kids in a Costco shopping cart and pulling another cart full of groceries. I guess the half ton I pushed and pulled all at the same time does not classify as steps.
  2. It failed to count my going up and down my stairs a million times to find socks, bottles and the missing remote control for our downstairs TV which was hidden in my sons closet. I later figured out I had to raise my hand at the top of the landing to make it count so I am saluting my light fixture every  trip up the stairs.
  3. Weirdly enough, when s*xy time happens it thinks I am climbing stairs which I can assure you I am not. There is another level in mind but not the kind the Fitbit is tracking.
  4. The three hours It takes to fold and put away 3 weeks of dirty laundry for a family of six seems to be no work at all. I can assure you from the definition in my arms I am one pair of size 3T shorts away from pointing you to the beach.
  5. Pushing my double stroller with a 35-lb one-year-old and a 60-lb 7-year-old who is currently battling Hand-Foot-Mouth disease. Also in the stroller is a gallon of water, enough gloves, balls and bats for our family and a picnic lunch that will not be consumed because it got crushed by the “other” things in my stroller. *sigh*

Fitbit

Even with all of these not so stellar issues I am in love with my Fitbit. I am able to see when my most active times of the day are, I am remembering to get up every hour to get at least 250 steps in (most of the time), and most importantly I am hitting the 10,00o step mark every day. It has been eons since I wore something on my wrist and it is nice to have a watch on my wrist and a vibrating notification as to who is calling me. Wish it told me who was emailing me too.

I have been going out of the house and getting active which is a big thing for me. Today was the first day that I stayed in and I still managed almost 13K steps because I cleaned the house real good. If I am going to be honest though I wish I had gotten one of the fancier Fitbit’s that also tracks your HR, have exercises on screen and have a better display like the Fitbit Blaze but I will wait it out for my next holiday that I have to buy myself a gift. That and the fancy Fitbit Aria Wi-Fi Smart Scale to tell me whether I am actually losing fat and gaining muscle or at a standstill :/

Another thing to mention is that Fitbit’s track your sleep and tell you how many times you were up during the night and restless. I seem to have some serious issues when it comes to getting enough shut eye so if anyone has any suggestion shoot them over. Also, if you have a Fitbit do you have any suggestions for getting the best results with it? Oh, and if you want to cheer each other on in challenges drop your username below and I will add you.

I used to wear the Up band (not sure where it is!) but everyone has the Fit so that may be what I need to do now! My old band didn’t track a lot of efforts as well – like the day I did a 90 Minute Hot Yoga class and went skiing for 6 hours – but didn’t get my steps even though it was the Fittest Day Ever! lol

The up and down the stairs should count as twice as many steps… And folding clothes for 6 people? Hello!! I think there should be an option / more for “parents”. Love that you’re enjoying the fit bit. Keep it up hun!

You are hilarious! haha! You should try Vivofit, It count step every time I move my arm. I don’t even need to be walking. I can get 10, 000 step easily in one day! I have to try it on my ankle. I read it suppose to work great and lucky me I have small ankles.
