Wacoal: Getting the Right Bra Fit at Hudson’s Bay

I vaguely remember when I first started wearing bras. I must have been around 11 or 12 and at that point they were just training bras to cover little mosquito bites growing on my chest. More than 10 years passed before I had my first bra fitting and got one that truly fit. Ten years of spillage, pain and bad posture that could have easily been prevented if someone had told me about the importance and ease of a bra fitting.

So in my early twenties it was suffice to say that my ladies were in tip top shape and the support I needed was minimal. I am now 30 years old and have up until a few days ago have had two bra fittings in my life. Pregnant four times, breastfeeding, and losing weight like crazy it is suffice to say that my once perky ladies were now in need of help.

When the opportunity to get a bra fitting arose I jumped at it. I knew that I was in serious need but I was also scared that at the age of 30 I would be forced into wearing bras that were not appealing to the eye (or my husband’s eyes). I was excited none the less and couldn’t wait to once again have a bra that enhanced my girls.

The Fitting

I arrived at the beautiful Hudson’s Bay at Yorkdale Mall with minutes to spare. I easily found the Intimates Department and met with my fitter, Brenda. Smiling and confident, she quickly put me at ease.

I was whisked away to a change room where she took two measurements. One around my chest under my armpits and another from my nipple to the base of my breast. This took less than a minute. The excuse I had been using about not having enough time to get a proper fitting was quickly squashed and she left to gather some bras.

She returned with 3 choices, all different in some way. I had been used to wearing padded bras to mask the horrible fit for quite some time. She came back with 3 bras-2 that were non-padded and 1 padded one as I had mentioned that I usually stick to them. I was positive that she had made a mistake and there was no way this thin bra would be able to support and enhance my wounded ladies.

Brenda proved me wrong the moment we got the first bra on. I immediately noticed that my posture was different. I was so used to being hunched over breastfeeding that when the bra was put on I immediately straightened up. She showed me how to bend over and redistribute my breast so that it was even in the bra. That bra that I had doubted so much just a few minutes earlier was now redefining my beliefs.

The next two bras both fit perfectly and what I was most surprised about was that the t-shirt bra I had been so keen on trying on was no longer my favourite. I liked the beauty in the other styles and knew that I no longer had to hide an ill-fitting bra with padding.

The Bra

Are you curious as to which bra I chose? I surprised even myself and got the beautiful RetroChic Underwire Bra. It is a complete 180 from what I am used to wearing. Even though I am full figured the Chantilly lace cup with mesh top supported me wonderfully. I feel beautiful and even sexy as I should at 30 years old. And the lift…the lift makes me look like I did pre-kids and that is something I have been wanting for years.

Now a few days in I can tell you why I love my new bra. There is a visible difference in my silhouette, not only is my posture better but my ladies are standing tall. There are no visible seams or bumps when I wear my shirts. This is important to me because I want to feel confident and there is nothing more crushing than seeing spillage of fat or breast at the seams. I am feeling beautiful and it shows.

Wacoal & B.Tempt’d

wacoal

Wacoal Intimates has been around for 30 years and in that time have made a name for themselves worldwide. They offer high quality intimates to women of all sizes that are affordable. With Wacoal you don’t have to sacrifice style and comfort just because you are a full-figured lady, you can have it all.

While Wacoal is more fitting to me now, in my late teens and twenties I would have loved the b.tempt’d line. Focusing more on the young-minded with beautiful designs that are flattering and stylish, it also has the same quality and fit as the Wacoal line.

Wacoal does not just do bras though. They have a complete line of intimates including underwear, lingerie, shape wear and even sports bras. You can have great quality and fit in all aspects of life.

Where to Buy

Currently Wacoal is sold at Hudson’s Bay in Canada. The Wacoal consultants are available to help you in-store and if you are interested in learning more you can check out the Wacoal line here.

In the end I am glad that I stayed open-minded and stepped out of my comfort zone. I now have a great bra that not only supports me but also helps me feel like more than just “mommy”, I feel like a woman should – beautiful and sexy.

So I admittedly neglected my girls using the excuse of no time. So I want to know whether you just pick off a rack and purchase intimates you “think” will fit or do you actually take the time (5 minutes max) to get fitted properly?

I had a proper bra fitting many, many years ago. Since that time, I’ve had triplets and breastfed for 18 months. My breasts are not what they used to be. I think that it’s time to make an appointment. I love the Bay and didn’t realize that they had so many options to choose from no matter your size.

    Besos Sarah.

I’ve never gone for a bra fitting before and that probably explains why mine never fit properly! I like the one you picked!

I totally have to check them out!! Never heard of Wacoal before now. I dont usually purchase bras but when i went in a month ago to pick up a couple I did get fitted because I am guilty for having gone in and just picking off the rack and having them not fit me well!

I hate bra shopping because maybe I feel there is no help especially for the one side that is always spilling out (so annoying). Maybe I should be properly fitted with hopes of a solution.

  12. August 16, 2015 / 10:20 am

I didn’t know that they had fitters in the stores either and it was as easy as walking up and asking to be fitted.

  13. August 16, 2015 / 10:21 am

Yes not only do you look better but your body will thank you, especially your back 🙂

  14. August 16, 2015 / 10:22 am

I like it too! Wait till Zoe has figured out the feedings and go do it 🙂

  15. August 16, 2015 / 10:23 am

The difference between just buying what you think you are as to what you really are is amazing

  16. August 16, 2015 / 10:24 am

We have all been guilty of this only to come home and be stuck with a bra that does not work

  17. August 16, 2015 / 10:24 am

    So glad to hear 🙂

Its just a quick visit to your local Hudson’s Bay away

  19. August 16, 2015 / 10:27 am

You are not the only one. I think all women take a while to figure out how a bra is ACTUALLY supposed to feel

  20. August 16, 2015 / 10:28 am

There is always help and we are all a little lopsided. I know my girl on the left is bigger ::)
