Everyday Bicycles Traveler Lite Bicycle Trailer {Review}

Extraordinary adventures were on the horizon when we got our Everyday Bicycles Traveler Lite Bicycle Trailer.

There is something exhilerating about getting on a bike and going for a ride. Maybe it’s the fresh air, infused with the scents of the neighbourhood flowers, hitting your face.  Maybe it’s discovering new places you never would have of found while driving in the car. It has a way of making me forget about the to-do list and whisking me away to the days when life was easier. It’s this magical power of turning grown adults into children that makes it the perfect activity to do as a family.

It is also something we have not been able to do for 5 years because the moment I got preggo with kid #3 bike riding flew out the window.

The Stars Aligned

I have been looking for a bike trailer for our two younger kids for years. YEARS. When our two oldest were small I bought a very cheap inexpensive horrible bike trailer for them off of kijiji. It was bulky, non-collapsible and almost broke a few rides in with the kids in it. My husband was totally turned off the idea of getthing another inexpensive trailer and I refused to pay $700+ for a trailer, the happy medium was on the horizon though.

Last month as we were strolling through our local Canadian Tire I saw the massive bike display and asked hubby to come with me to look. I didn’t know exactly what I was looking for until I saw the Everyday Bicycles trailers. Once they passed hubs general inspection and I could dream a little more I took a closer look at them and look at what it says on the trailer–>

“Remember when a little ride was a big adventure?” It was the sign I was looking for, the stars aligned.

Assembling the Traveler Lite Bicycle Trailer from Everyday Bicycles

The Traveler Lite Bicycle Trailer can be used for one kid or two and has a weight capacity of 100lbs. It is the Traveller Lite but this is no light-weight.

When you get the Traveler Lite Bicycle Trailer home and unbox it you are left with a pretty self explanatory system in front of you (unless your kids leave something in the box–more on that later).

In the box:

  • trailer
  • 2 wheel brake guards
  • towbar with hitch connector
  • swivel stroller wheel
  • flag
  • user manual
  • push bar

We spread everything out on the floor and once we lifted up the two sides of the trailer we could see the seat back crossbar had to be pulled up and slid into place. Once that is in you click in the pushbar and we also did the front wheel. It took under a minute to do all 3 of these steps. We then had to put the trailer on each side to put the big 16″ wheels in and use the locking pins to secure them in.

At this point I quickly took off the washer and bolt off of my bike’s rear wheel (left side) and attached the hitch connector quickly. I was impatient to go for a ride. **

Adventuring with Our Traveler Lite

This bike trailer can be used both as a bike trailer and a stroller. Going between from stroller mode is as easy as taking off the front wheel (button-release) and swinging the tow bar from under the stroller to out in front of it. I can’t stress how easy this whole process is and even while we are out and about I would not have an issue going between both as you don’t need special tools or a lot of strength.

We have takes our trailer on a few rides already through our neighbourhood, exploring more each time we go out. Even with the 90 lbs of weight with the kids in it it was an easy ride. It took corners well and there was never a feeling that the kids would tip over or that we would become disconnected from them. I like that the hitch connector not only attaches to the trailer but there is also a clip in place incase anything happens.

Another thing I appreciate is that the front little panel has a velcro piece on it that comes undone so that the kids can easily get in and out. It is the little things that make a big difference. Plus it has brakes on both sides to make sure the trailer stays in place while they get in and out.

Safety Features of the Traveler Lite

Bright yellow is not generally a colour I gravitate to but I completely see why you would want to have a bike trailer bright yellow like this. When we bike, we are usually on the side of the road and I want cars to be able to see the trailer. Adding another factor to the safety factor is a bright orange flag that flies from the side. It’s wave is another reminder that there is precious cargo in that trailer. Just like a bike it also has reflectors on the tires and back so that if you are biking at night you are visible.

To protect the kids there is a 5-point harness for each child. It attaches at the abdommen and is a quick release button for parents but my kids have not figured out how to open it up themselves. Another great feature is the Mesh Access panel that also has a vinyl all-weather cover that can be rolled up when not in use.

You’re going to want to use the mesh anytime you use the trailer behind your bike to protect your kids from flying debris but also to stop bugs from attacking the kids while in stroller mode. It attaches with velcro and the material and stiching looks and feels great.

Storage Space in the Traveler Light

There is two mesh cup holders on either side of the trailer inside. It makes it easy for the kids to reach for their sippy cups while we are riding.

I have put a backpack into the space in between the back of the seats and the back of the trailer to use as a storage space. I have not put anything super heavy into the trailer (just light groceries/water) because my kids are heavy but if you only have one child using the trailer there would be plenty of space for you to also put some groceries into the trailer space.

Final Thoughts

The Traveler Light Bicycle Trailer is a perfect fit for a family that wants to explore but is maybe limited with their mobility due to small children. There is a Deluxe trailer model that has larger wheels but for the adventures we go on the Lite Traveler is a perfect choice. Considering we could comfortably ride our bikes for 3 seasons of the year I think this would be a perfect investment.

Purchasing an Everyday Bicycles Bike or Trailer

You can purchase the lineup from Everyday Bicycles at Canadian Tire. You can check out the review of the Trinity Bike by Naturally Cracked and head to their website to check out their lineup.

Do you still ride your bike as an adult? If not what is holding you back?

**The kids left the two wheel brake gaurds in the box and we initially were riding without them in. We survived but they are important as you need the trailer to be stopped for kids to safely get in and out.

This sounds like a great bike trailer! I wouldn’t have thought about the yellow being a safety feature until you mentioned it.

I would have loved to have had one of these when my boys were younger. I have to admit that I was nervous that I would buy the wrong one and my boys would end up falling out :).

I love Bicycle Trailers; wish they had them when the boys were little. Alas not. But I like how easy to put up and take down this one is… My friend has a dog which she places inside her’s and brings to work; its the funniest thing to see her biking to work with Murphy in the back.

Looks like a great trailer for kids. I’d only be worried about safety on busy roads but that is for any cyclist. My son, an adult, got knocked off this bike by a car turning the corner into the road he was on, the car driver had taken it too sharply. Luckily my son was only shaken up with a few bruises and grazes but the fact that the car driver didn’t even bother to stop and check if he was okay really got my goat.

These bicycle trailers are amazing! I would definitely feel more safe riding around with one of those then having my child on the back of my bike…not only that but the added space is a must. You can take some things along with you for the ride or pick things up and have a place to put them…like a bottle of wine LOL! now i just need to buy me a bike first….
