smoky turkey lentil chili

We have been hard at work over here testing out healthy lunch and dinner recipes for when the kids go back to school. The summer was filled with lots of garden fresh veggies and barbecues but for the fall we are searching for meals that are nutritious, delicious and budget friendly as well.

Benefits of Adding Canadian Turkey and Lentils to Your Menu

When I usually think of turkey I am thinking of a bird big enough to feed a house full of guests with enough meat to have leftovers for soup and sandwiches for the next few days. Turkey is one of those protein-packed foods that can be served at any meal and will not only provide nutrients but a whopping 30g of lean protein per 100g. You’re also going to load up on vitamin B12 which is essential in keeping your bodies nervous system running well, selenium (an antioxidant mineral) and zinc (for a strong immune system). Plus it is so versatile and easy to cook. You can check out some kids faves recipes on their blog here.Smoky Turkey Lentil Chili

I’ve been eating lentils my whole life (so good in soup) but it wasn’t until I went to a conference where Lentils were sponsors where I saw the full versatility of them. I mean you can even make delicious deserts like these Lentil, Avocado & Peanut Butter Brownie and Coconut Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars. Lentils pack a powerful nutritional punch as well. Full of nutritional protein and fiber, and a great source of minerals such as potassium, iron, and folate they are a fantastic addition to your menu to keep you and your family in tip-top shape. Check out family-friendly meals here.Smoky Turkey Lentil Chili

Put Canadian turkey and lentils together and you have the perfect building blocks to keep you family sustained and ready to tackle the days ahead.

5 Tips To Make Back-To- School Easy With Canadian Turkey and Lentils

Batch It! Turkey and lentils are the perfect choice for batch cooking. Cook a little extra turkey to provide planned leftovers, so you can cook once and eat twice! And lentils can be cooked in large batches and refrigerated or frozen in pre-set amounts, so that they’re ready to thaw and use for your next recipe.

Get Healthy! Both lentils and turkey are a great source of protein and important minerals, and lentils are a great source of fiber, too. Combine the two, and you’ll power up your plate!

Keep It Simple! Lentils are quick and easy to cook, and they don’t require pre-soaking. Both turkey and lentils can be cooked ahead of time and freeze well, so they’re ready when you are!

Versatility Plus! Turkey adapts to all of your favourite flavour profiles and spice combinations, and with so many cuts to choose from you can find choices that please the whole family. With lentils, the options are endless since they can be used in countless different recipes, including salads, smoothies and even desserts! Turkey and lentils are delicious at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and everything in between. Both can be enjoyed hot or cold, and taste great the next day, too!

Boost It! Add lentils and turkey to your favourite dishes for an instant protein boost! Salads, soups, pasta sauces and casseroles all benefit from the added nutrients lentils and turkey contribute.

My favorite way to eat lentils is in an all pulse chili. Tastes the best when eaten in a bread bowl. I do love the idea of turkey in chili , but I love a pulse chili and only pulse as the protein. Great recipe .

This recipe and article was a good reminder to introduce them in a not so obvious way for the naysayers in the family. haha!
