Top Tips For Packing Light

Whether you’re traveling with kids or are trying to stay within a certain weight limit, there are many benefits associated with traveling light. Not only is it a little easier to carry your bag or suitcase from place to place (essential for backpacking trips), but it can also save you a considerable amount of money.

However, this does not mean that packing light is easy!

With that in mind, here are some top tips that you can use to make packing light a little easier.

Mix and match swimwear. If you’re heading out on a beach or poolside holiday, then the chances are you’ll need to bring more than one swimsuit with you. However, if you’re short on space, you could always mix and match by altering different pairings of bikini tops and bottoms. This way, your look will change constantly, even if you only bring four bikinis with you! You can also apply this strategy to different outfits, too.

Wear your bulkiest items on the flight. If there’s a specific item of clothing that you’d like to bring on your trip, such as a bulky jacket, but you’re worried about the space this takes up in your case, wear it for the flight instead. You can always remove it and place it under your seat or in the overhead locker during the flight, or keep it on if you’re feeling a little cold.

Use packing cubes.

Packing cubes not only help you to organise your case or carry-on bag, meaning you can quickly find what you’re looking for upon arrival, but they can also help you to make sure of the space you have available to you. As such, by using them, you may find that you’re able to bring along more items of clothing than you initially planned!

Take travel-size makeup. If you’re heading out on a short trip,  buying travel-sized versions of your favorite makeup and skincare products is advisable. This is crucial if you’re hand luggage only, as you may be facing limitations on the amount of liquid-based products you can carry. Alternatively, you can transfer your products into travel containers. This way, you have access to everything you need without taking up too much room in your case.

Buy specific items when you arrive. If you need to save space in your case or carry-on bag, then you should also think carefully about items you can buy on arrival (or duty-free) as opposed to buying them beforehand. For example, it’s often cheaper to buy sunscreen and after-sun products abroad, and this saves a lot of room in your case. You may also want to buy things such as towels from local tourist shops!

Find a nearby laundromat. If you’re travelling for several weeks, you may want to research ahead of time to see if your hotel offers laundry services or if there’s a nearby laundromat you can make use of. This way, you can wash your clothes as often as necessary!
