We just got a great and generous delivery of new Summer 2023 Nat Geo Kids books for our family that the kids couldn’t wait to dive into. I have been a fan of Nat Geo books since I was a young bookworm and they always fueled my fact-loving heart in ways others couldn’t. Another great thing about Nat Geo Kids books is that a lot of them are short bursts of information so if you have a kid that has trouble focusing these tend to be great at still getting information off the page and into your child’s head. They’re also an absolutely perfect addition to the car so you can get the kids to put away the devices and get in some reading. Read all about the 10 benefits of summer reading for kids here.

Our Fave Summer 2024 Nat Geo Kids Books

OUR FAVE SUMMER 2024 NAT GEO KIDS BOOKS

First up, the National Geographic Kids Almanac 2024 (ages 8-12, Paperback, $18.99). I love, love, love the fact that the Almanac is full of amazing photos, facts, Nat Geo exclusives, games, activities, and fascinating features about animals, science, nature, technology, and more.

This year’s edition includes the:

  • EXCLUSIVE National Geographic Explorer interviews and features
  • EXCLUSIVE Interactive Almanac Challenge 2024, plus the results of the Almanac Challenge 2023
  • BONUS SECTION of sidesplitting jokes and riddles
  • NEW fun-tastic things to see and do in 2024
  • NEW cutest animal superlatives and animal rescue stories
  • NEW science and dinosaur discoveries
  • NEW fun games, quizzes, and activities
  • NEW weird and wacky places around the world
  • NEW experiments to do, places to explore, and ways to change the world
  • UPDATED reference material, including fast facts and maps of every country

Take the Almanac Challenge!

Perfect addition to any trip to the beach is the Little Kids First Nature Guide: Explore the Beach (ages 4-8, Flex-Bound, $12.99). Get your littles exploring their surroundings and identifying their finds. From creatures to plants and everything in between, this guide contains:

  • Easy-to-understand profiles of a wide variety of plants and animals commonly spotted at the beach, as well as fan-favourites out in the waves like dolphins, seahorses, and jellyfish
  • Vibrant National Geographic photography brings the subject matter to life and makes identification easy
  • “Check Me Out!” fact boxes that provide more information about each creature, including its size and colour, where it’s found, and what it eats
  • Gallery pages featuring various beach environments, such as tide pools and sand dunes
  • Cool fun facts sprinkled throughout
  • Simple text for reading aloud or for beginning readers
  • Games, activities, and tips for how and where to explore
  • Helpful glossary
  • Flexible binding for durability

If you’re looking for beach-themed books for older kids the Puzzle Book of the Ocean (ages 8-12, Paperback, $9.99) is a great addition to the boredom-busting arsenal. Full of pages and pages of crosswords, sudoku, word searches, mazes, quizzes, word scrambles, and spot-the-difference puzzles as well as fun facts and vibrant photos of fish, dolphins, sea turtles, and all sorts of ocean animals.

The National Geographic Kids Personality Quizzes (ages 8-12, $12.99, Paperback) had my kids in constant fits of giggles in the back seat. From weird and wacky (What stinky animal are you?) to thought-provoking and informative (Which mountain should you climb?), there’s a personality profile for everyone in this totally unique book. Filled with all kinds of quizzes: flow charts, multiple-choice, this or that, and more and while you’re at it, get to know about amazing animals, places, cultures, and even careers around the world!

Right up my alley is That’s Fact-tastic! Mind-Blowing, Eye-Popping, Jaw-Dropping Stuff About Our World   (ages 8-12, Hardcover, $19.99). Full of totally random tidbits of information that I didn’t even know I wanted (or needed) to know. Did you know that a giraffe’s eye is as big as a Ping-Pong ball? Or that there is only one bone in your body that’s not connected to another one?  Special features include Extreme Weirdness, Strange Places, What’s the Difference, and more to fuel the curious person in your life

For longer trips and kids who love novels, the Explorer Academy Book 1: The Nebula Secret and Explorer Academy Book 2: The Falcon’s Feather (ages 8-12, Hardcover/Paperback, $13.99) are great options. This series is built around adventure-seeking 12-year-old Cruz Coronado as he joins an elite school for explorers.

In this fiction series, Cruz leaves his tranquil home in Hawaii to join 23 talented kids from around the globe to train at the Explorer Academy with the world’s leading scientists to become the next generation of great explorers. But for Cruz, there’s more at stake. No sooner has he arrived at the Academy than he discovers that his family has a mysterious past with the organization that could jeopardize his future. In the midst of codebreaking and cool classes, new friends and augmented-reality expeditions, Cruz must tackle the biggest question of all: Who is out to get him … and why?  Readers can get in on the excitement with puzzles and codes embedded throughout.
