15 Common Troubles You Could Have With Your Teens

When you are raising a child, it can be all fun and games until you reach your teenage years. Once you reach this stage, things can change completely and you might end up in a situation where you find yourself struggling with new situations each and every day. Here are some of the common issues that you can encounter along with the best ways to deal with them.

Anger

First, you should make sure that you are dealing with children feeling angry. This can become more of an issue as children reach the teenage years because they constantly feel as though they are struggling in a world that they don’t understand.

The best way to deal with high levels of anger in teenagers is to make sure that communication channels are open. You might also want to focus on finding out what is making them angry in the first place.

This could be a problem in school or a problem in their personal life. There are lots of things that can make teenagers angry. You could also think about using strategies to help them relax.

Communication

When it comes to teeangers, communication is key. Communication will mean that things don’t stay buried and understand the surface. In terms of how to communicate effectively, you might want to think about planning daily meetings for your family. This means that you can tackle any of the issues that your teenager is facing on a daily basis.

Be aware that you might also want to think about using technology to communicate effectively with your teenagers. As an example, you could set up a family group chat on Whatsapp. This is an easy way to keep everyone connected and ensure that they feel as though you are hearing their concerns.

You Don’t Understand

This is something that you’ll hear a lot when you are the parent of teenagers. They will often tell you that they are going through things that you have no idea about, which of course, isn’t the case. That said, it is important to be aware of their perspective, even if you think they are wrong. Try to approach a situation like this by explaining how you felt when you were their age. Teenagers say that they hate this but it can still be incredibly useful.

Slamming Doors

Slamming doors is another common issue that you can have when you have teenagers. It’s possible that doors get slammed almost every day when they are going through puberty. It’s important to note that lashing out is common in teenagers because they are struggling to express their emotions in a way that they understand.

Rebeling

You could also find that your teenager is rebelling constantly. Again, this is perfectly normal and a sign that your teenagers are going through social development. This isn’t something that you need to stop completely. You just need to be aware of the situation and what it can mean for both you as well as your teenager. For instance, you need to think about the trouble that they can get into when they are rebelling. This brings us to the next step.

Trouble With The Law

You could also find that your teenagers get in trouble with the law as they are speeding their way through social development. Trouble with the law is common because when pushing boundaries, children often go a little too far. They can even end up in a detention center if things get too serious. Be aware that there is legal support for abused minors in detention centers as well as other support that they might need if they end up in a situation where they are in trouble with the law.

Body Issues

Teenagers can also have trouble with body issues. Parents often feel as though this is always girls that have this issue but that’s not the case. In reality, this can be a problem for boys just as much as girls. For instance, boys can worry about whether they are muscular enough or if they are too big. There aren’t many ways that you can help children when they are dealing with this but you might want to think about ensuring that they know that the images on TV and in the media of teenagers are unrealistic.

Peer Pressure

When it comes to peer pressure, it’s something that can cause teenagers to go completely onto the wrong path during their development. This is something to be aware of but you can’t stop teens from being friends with who they want to be friends with or dating who they want to date. Even if they are a bad influence, this is something they need to figure out for themselves.

Finding A Job

Your teen might also struggle to find a job in the future. The job market is competitive and it’s important that they are aware of this. It’s worth noting that this is almost more about who you know and whether you can provide them with the right opportunities early on in their career development.

Bullying

Bullying is by far one of the biggest concerns for parents. Indeed, when it comes to bullying, it’s what’s happening underneath the surface that can be most damaging and challenging. For instance, you might find that your teenager is being bullied online or even on the phone. The best way to deal with this is to make sure that they know the dangers of bullying online so they can tackle some of the challenges head on.

Running Away From Home

If your teenager runs away from home, you might think that it’s a massive concern that you need to deal with. However, we’re pleased to say that’s not the case and it’s more common for children to run away than you might expect. There can be numerous reasons why this might occur. One example would be if a child feels that they are not being listened to. Alternatively, this could be another sign of rebellion.

Another important thing to remember is that usually they won’t be too far away at all. They might be staying at a friends or sleeping near the property, as two possible examples.

Exploring Sexual Experiences

Sexual experiences are another issue that you might have when you are parenting a teenager. There’s no rule about when teens will become sexually active. There’s also no guarantee that teens will wait until after the age of consent to start engaging in sex.

Again, this is often just about making sure that teens are aware of the dangers of having sex as well as the challenges and the issues they can encounter. You should also make sure that they know if they do have any concerns they can always come to you.

Developing Bad Habits

Finally, you should make sure that you are helping your teenagers when they are developing bad habits. Similar to children, one of the best ways to avoid issues with bad habits is steps that include both rewards and punishment. For instance, if your teenagers aren’t keeping their room tidy and then you might want to make their curfew a little shorter. Or, if they are struggling to keep hygiene levels at the right level, then you might want to consider purchasing  some nice perfume and cologne to ensure they smell great around their friends.

We hope this helps you understand some of the key troubles that you can encounter with your teens. By being aware of the challenges you can face, you can make sure that you are able to stay on top of the situation both now and in the future.
