Stress-Relieving Beauty Products: Getting Back Our Calm

stress-relieving beauty

We are in the home stretch of summer break and I for one am a mixture of totally relaxed and stressed out beyond belief. The kids may have everything they need for back-to-school carefully purchased weeks back but now I am looking at the list of appointments I have to go to–yearly physical, dentist and optometrist–all this week. Time for some stress-relieving beauty products.

The thought of the business of this week almost makes me want to crawl back into bed but I did something this weekend to help relieve some stress in my life–I ran away with my family to spend the weekend sitting around the fire and doing nothing.

The Business of Doing Nothing

We drove out to my parents spot and planned nothing. We woke up at the crack of dawn with no computers or to-do lists calling our names. We stayed up late as we talked around the blazing fire. We left our worries at our home and let our stresses melt away.

We let our kids have more freedom than they would at home. They took walks and explored. They caught bugs and caterpillars. They built fires and learned how to fish. They were the kids of the 80’s if only for a few days.

In a week our life will go back to being structured. Routines will return, early bedtimes will return, I may even be able to get all my work done before the kids come home from school for the first time in two-and-a-half months.

Stress-Relieving Beauty at Home

Now that I am home and still calm since my weekend away I want to maintain the feeling. I can’t just pack my family up and run away every time I am feeling stressed (although that would be amazing). So instead I am going to indulge in some stress-relieving activities at home.

If I have a choice between a shower and a bath I will always choose bath. There is something to be said for just laying there, submersing yourself under the water, and drowning out all the sounds around you. I let my husband know I am sneaking away and pour Bath & Body Works Aromatherapy Stress Relief Eucalyptus Spearmint Body Wash & Foam Bath into a running bath. I don’t often get to lock the doors away from my kids but when I do I make sure I am double-dipping in the benefits–bath time and stress-relieving aromatherapy treatment in one.

When I am stressed out you can really see it in my skin. It becomes dull and dry and it actually causes me more stress because it’s one thing to be stressed but another thing to look like crap because the world is seemingly resting square on your shoulders. This Origins Calm To Your Senses Stress-Relieving Face Mask is rich and creamy and goes right to work with Buckbean and St. Paul’s Work extract to relieve stressed skin and lavender and chamomile to soothe the sense.

I am not always at home when stress hits. Sometimes it’s when the kids are having an epic meltdown at the grocery store or when I get a phone call when out and about that needs my immediate attention and I can’t give it. Stress does not care about where you are and I love having something like 21 Drops – Roll-On Essential Oil Blend (DE-STRESS) in my purse to stop the panic and bring me down to reality. This line has 21 blends are 100% natural, therapeutic-quality oils gathered from regions throughout the world, each carefully tested to ensure the utmost purity and effectiveness. The de-stress blend has Frankincense to quiet the mind, German chamomile to reduce tension, lavender to reduce anxiety and Ylang Ylang to help ease panic attacks.

Its amazing how much freedom we had as kids in the 1980’s; I miss that time and I feel sad for kids these days that they don’t have the opportunity to do the things we did. By the way, I love Origins products!!!!

I love using Lush bath bombs when I need to decompress. They come in such fantastic scents. I think my favourite right now is the intergalactic.

How amazing, I didn’t know these products were out there. I seldom get stressed out (despite having had 7 kids) but recently the paperwork I’ve had to fill out 1) for my pension – for 3 different countries! 2) for my taxes here and again in Germany – yep double taxation for me! Now I have to fill out two different sets of papers for here. It’s all a bit much, especially when I have to list everywhere I’ve lived since I was 18, that’s about 28 different addresses. Then of course there is the fight with my Ex through courts and lawyers, dreadful. I believe that I could use the Bath & Body Works Aromatherapy Stress Relief Body Wash & Foam Bath for sure.

We like to hit the jacuzzi when we are stressed, it helps a lot. I’ve heard that there are scents that you can put in the water to destress and I need to look more into that because I think I would really like that.

I do have some lavender bath salts, think I might try them out – another form to fill out for my bank in England to say that I do live here and pay taxes here too, will it ever end. Then there’s been a ton of Drs appointments too, it’s all wearing me down a bit.
