PLAYMOBIL Berk Play Set from How To Train Your Dragon

How To Train Your Dragon is one of those movies (times 2) and shows that appeal to kids of all ages–and even us parents. I made a total scene watching the second movie in the theater with my family because Hiccup was reunited with his momma (Cue all the tears…all. of. them.) So excited to share the PLAYMOBIL Berk Play Set from How to train your dragon.

Answering the Questions

Our youngest has this imagination that amazes me everyday. She loves to play alone and provides dialogue for all parties involved. When she first started to do this we thought she was crazy and talking to herself but than we realized that she was not only capable but very good at playing out stories that were in her mind out loud.

Since she was not yet born when HTTYD first came out so she had questions. Who were the characters? Who were these dinosaurs? Who were these pirates? What happened to the boys foot?

Thankfully the movie is still on Netflix so we made a family movie night out of it and answered any and all question she had. She also learned that Berk is a Viking village and these were dragons and not dinosaurs. We laughed and all shed tears at the end when Hiccup lost his foot.

PLAYMOBIL Berk

We received an amazing delivery from our friends at PLAYMOBIL (visit site) last week and after bribing my kids into cleaning up their rooms we set about putting together the 145 piece play set with the kids.

PLAYMOBILbERK

The instructions said it would take 2 hours but we managed to get this up and ready to play with in about 45 minutes, thankfully because the kids were impatient.

This is a large 2-storey play set and it has something for everyone to play with on all sides. All four of our kids were very happy to play with it at the same time without fighting. While our other kids ended up going off to do other activities, our younger daughter sat playing for hours.

There was such thought that went into this playset to make it look like the Village of Berk. We never even paid attention to the Viking statues in the water surrounding Berk until we watched the movie again. The kids love that at a push of a button it illuminates giving another dimension to their imaginative play. Plus there is even tiny seashells, crabs, seagulls, and even a pile of wood to set the scene.

Our kids love using the catapult to launch boulders across the living room, our youngest takes the bow and shoots flaming arrows at his siblings and our daughter has some weird habit of getting Hiccup to pull her Barbie’s up and down the pulley system.

This set is recommended for kids ages 4+ and I agree. My four year old is careful enough to play with all aspects of it–she can even use the trapdoor! My two and a half year old not so much. There are a lot of tiny pieces (like a bucket full of fish) but it adds so much to the experience.

Final Thoughts

I think the Playmobil Berk set would be great for a child that is into imaginative play and likes to role play. This set is fairly expensive but considering just how many different aspects this one set has it is reasonable.

This is also a piece that does take up about a square foot of space. It would be best if you had space to store it when not in use. I know our little girl doesn’t even let us put it away.

If you want to purchase this set you can do so at most major retailers and independent toy stores. To see more of what Playmobil has to offer check out their website for the whole range of toys.

My seven played a lot with Playmobil as children (70s & 80s), it was a popular product in Germany. I love the detail they put into their sets, kids can let their imagination run wild – mine certainly did.

I also like how Playmobil is now bringing out more variety in the sets they produce, there wasn’t much choice when my kids were young.
