Summer may well on its way but we’re still tasked with planning the perfect bbq for family and friends. That may seem like a hella big task but I have a house full of Amazon Echo’s helping make even last minute get-together’s run smoothly.

Alexa is the brain of my Amazon Echo and she’s kind of a big deal. She is the absolutely perfect side kick when it comes to party planning and making sure I stay on track not to mention that she makes it FUN. “Mom brain” is a thing of the past now that she’s part of the team so let me share some of the ways she makes the process easier.

I’ve got lists for everything and I love adding to them on a whim. Housed within the Echo are seven microphones, beamforming technology and noise cancellation that somehow allows Echo to hear me scream out some random object to add to the list above the sound of the kids fighting and me doing the dishes. Steaks, lettuce and chips for our bbq are added without skipping a beat and anytime I remember something else I just let Alexa know to add it to the list.

She can even add items into my Amazon shopping cart and although I don’t yet trust her enough to complete the purchase I’ve been told she can. One day Alexa, one day.

For now, I can ask her how long to grill my 6oz filet mignon on each side to get it a perfect medium rare and then set a timer with her so that even if my husband gets distracted while grilling he won’t ruin my dinner. Alexa and the Echo are saving our marriage with each meal.

We’ve got a pretty great (if I may say so myself) summer playlist made in Prime Music that we can easily get our Echo to play it. We can set up multiple Echo’s in the same area to get more of an immersive experience and everyone can take turns being a DJ by simply asking Alexa to play their fave song. Who knows you may be introduced to a new fave thanks to the experience.

I think one of my fave features though is the ‘drop-in’ feature that allows you to talk from one Echo to another. That means if my husband needs anything outdoors he doesn’t have to scream at the top of his lungs to let me know inside, he can just drop-in on my kitchen Echo, and vice-versa.

If all else fails you can ask Alexa to tell you and your guests a joke but I am sure your bbq will be as amazing and perfect as ours if Alexa helps you out.

Purchasing an Amazon Echo

You can grab an Echo like ours for $129.99 each right now on Amazon.ca but if you purchase 2 (highly recommended) you get $40 off of your purchase and free next-day shipping if you are a Prime member.

She does so much more than tells you the weather and how your commute is to work. You can set up your homes compatible smart devices and I have been getting her to read to me when I am doing the dishes and falling asleep. If you are looking for a sidekick to help you not only plan a better bbq but also just get the most out of your day Alexa is a great option.

We have both Echo (amazon) and Google Home and the echo is by far a better system if you are using it to listen to music. The Google home is the system that controls our Rogers Smart Home and it does a good job at that but sucks for music.

Alexa sounds quite amazing. One of my sons has this and last time I visited he drove me nuts with it – he had it set up to remind me every hour to do something like eat vegetables, drink more fluids etc etc. LOL

I still haven’t tried any Smart electronics/assistants yet.. I’m behind on all the new technology. It’s good to know Amazon Echo is so helpful. I am thinking about investing in one soon.

Alexa is a great source of information too, besides being able to adjust the temperature in the home – who knew?
