2018 Gaming Gift Guide for Xbox, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch

Gaming Gift Guide for XBox, Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch

I really wanted to only recommend items we have tried or own already this year to all of you. At home, we mainly game on the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and X Box One S so that is what I will be mentioning below. You will also notice I do not mention FortNite even though it is hugely popular and that is because it is banned in my house. I can’t and won’t recommend it for small or even bigger kids who have a tendency to get really influenced by others or games.

Another thing I really wanted to mention but couldn’t was a good gaming chair. We’ve been on the lookout for almost a decade and they all seem to have bad reviews. If you have a good one please comment below as I would love to get my boys a set this year.

Nintendo Switch Gift Guide

My oldest son added this to his collection of consoles a couple of months ago and I see the appeal. This console offers amazing customization, up to 4 players with the main unit becoming like a screen and it brings Mario, Luigi and Zelda back into your hands.

Nintendo Switch – a Sweet little console that will keep the whole family entertained or perfect for single player.

Neon Joy Cons – let you expand the Nintendo Switch to 4 players or simply let you customize the aesthetics. Either way, this Neon set is hot this season.

Orzly Carrying Case – A protective hard case for your Nintendo Switch and accessories. I suggest getting on of these if you have a Switch so that you can keep all of the pieces together. It is especially helpful if you’re planning on using your Switch while out of the house, like for the long (and no longer boring) commute for work or for the kids to use while out and about.

Nintendo Switch Pro Controller My son prefers to play the Switch with the Pro Controller and I don’t blame him. This controller gives you more control and

Super Mario Party Even my youngest could play this virtual board game and with its mini-games, you can get up to 4 people playing at the same time. If you have a large family and don’t like listening to kids whine about not getting a turn this is a great option.

Starlink: Battle for Atlas We got to experience this game for the first time at an X-Box event but now have it for the Switch. You can build your own spaceship with unique weapons and drivers where it will show up in the game. My oldest loves this game and so it made it into our guide this year. This is also available for Xbox and PS4

Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu/Go Eevee – We got to try these out at a Nintendo event we went to this month and my oldest (boy, aged 10) really enjoyed it. It’s on his holiday wish list which is why it made this list.

PlayStation 4 Gift Guide

When it comes to gaming consoles the PlayStation 4 is like a dinosaur but yet it still has a cult following. My husband is on his third PS4 and now my oldest has also joined him in playing. It is geared towards older players and the games and graphics (that we play at least) are a lot more graphic and violent.

PlayStation 4 Pro 1TB Console – Red Dead Redemption 2 Bundle – Everything you need to play is in this bundle. Red Dead Redemption 2 is the hot new game that was just released. When we went to our local Walmart to ask what we should buy on Black Friday the clerk told us that this was what everyone was playing right now and to not even bother buying anything else.

DualShock 4 Green Camouflage Controller – PlayStation 4 Green Camouflage Edition

DualShock®4 Wireless Controller – Gold – PlayStation 4 Gold Edition

ECHTPower PS4 Controller Charging Dock I will always recommend a good charging dock because it really cleans up the space and declutters all the cords. Plus who has time to look for the cords when needed?

VersionTECH Gaming Headset  Professional Stereo Over-EarHeadset with Noise Cancelling Mic, LED Lights, Soft Memory Earmuff

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 COD is a violent game of tactical warfare but that is what makes it so great. It’s is a big hit here and although I don’t really like games like this, the franchise has kept my husband and oldest busy and happy so it is on the list.

Spiderman – Another new release this year that is a good adventure game for the tween+ age group is Spiderman. Following the adventures of Peter Parker in New York its a mix of parkour and crime-fighting adventure

Xbox One Gift Guide

I am a huge fan of the Xbox One and even my PS4 loving husband has agreed that this is a great family console. You can read more about the Xbox One S and some of our fave games from earlier this year here. The gift guide below holds our current faves.

Xbox One X NBA 2K19 Bundle – This is a big upgrade to the One S we have and delivers a fast and true 4k gaming experience with amazing graphics. This bundle comes with one of our fave games so if you have a basketball fam consider gifting this.

Xbox One X Stand – This Younik verticle stand is a great addition if you are short on space and really want to keep everything organized. It also has cooling fans to keep the unit cool, has a dual controller charging station and enough storage for 7 games.

Charging Dock If you don’t want to invest in the vertical stand above try to get on of these dual charging docks for high speed recharges. Not only does recharge your batteries fast but it also takes care of all the clutter.

Xbox Live 1 Year Membership This membership lets you play online with friends and others in the gaming community. It also gives you free games to play every month and offers exclusive discounts of up to 50-75% on games in the Xbox Store. All future Games with Gold titles for Xbox 360 will be playable on Xbox One

Xbox Design Lab Gift a fully customized and even engraved controller for the gamer in your life. There are endless possibilities and my husband and oldest have both designed their fave.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4  I know that I put this for PS4 but it is equally as good on the Xbox One. My husband grabbed this on Black Friday and the boys have been playing together since then. It also has a FortNite-like mode where you parachute in and it’s just enough to stop my oldest from asking for FortNite back.

We have a WiiU but it is starting to give us a lot of trouble. My daughter wants this one next, she likes that it can be on the tv or in her hand. Much like the U was.

I don’t really understand the comment how PS4 “is like a dinosaur”, especially with the pro being the most advanced system. But it is true that it is more older-player oriented, and Nintendo switch is definitely the most family-friendly.
