Easy Natural Remedies

Moms can’t get sick and so when I start feeling ill I go into speed mode to pull out as many easy natural remedies as I can find in my house. The idea is that I want to burn whatever illness is trying to invade my body the FUCK OUT.

I am not a doctor and as such this advice should never be taken above your own doctors. If your are feeling ill please consult with your doctor as you may have an ailment that requires a doctors cares. This is simply some steps that I take to make sure I stay healthy so that I can take care of my family. Plus it’s all stuff I have at home all the time.

Easy Natural Remedies with Products in Your Home Already

General sickness within the home. Right away I cut up an onion and place it in each and every room of the house. Our house smells horrendous but I don’t care. Onions absorb bacteria, germs and pathogens and I can smell like a stew if it means I stay healthy. I can’t sleep with socks on but this post explains the benefits of sleeping with sliced white onions in your socks.

Easy Natural Remedies

My mom gave me the ‘recipe’ (it’s not a recipe) for a good way to get raw onion into your body without crying. You cut an onion in half and slice it really thinly. Then you put it in a bowl with a little bit of salt, pepper, lemon juice and olive oil. Toss and wait for the onions to soften approximately 30 minutes, and enjoy. Think of it as a salad but not.

Another home remedy we would use growing up and I still do to this day is an onion cough syrup. You chop up onions very fine and put them into a glass container to fill it up. You then put in a teaspoon to a tablespoon of sugar into the jar. Seal it, shake it up, and put it in the fridge. It takes a few hours for the onions to start to release their juices but when they do you simply strain a tablespoon of the liquids onto a spoon and take a few times a day. It is not as gross as it sounds and it works.

Easy Natural Remedies

Ear pain. I never, ever, and I mean not even once let ear pain linger. Ear pain to me is probably the worst pain in the world and the moment I start feeling pressure or that tell-tale itching I ask one of my older kids to pour a half capful of 3% hydrogen peroxide into my ear. I get comfortable on the couch and lay on my side with a pillow under my head so that my head is stable and supported. I don’t want hydrogen peroxide running down my face and I make sure I have a paper towel on hand so I can cover my ear when it is done and let the liquids pour out. I let it bubble away until I can hear the bubbles slow down, usually less than 90 seconds and flip over to do the other side. If you leave this in for too long you will do more damage then good.

A sore throat. Let it burn—what I tell myself every single time I use Oil of Oregano drops. You can find these at your local health food store or even Amazon. Oil of Oregano in its liquid form is like liquid fire but it tackles bacteria, yeast, fungus and parasites. I open my mouth as wide as I can and try to drop 1-3 drops of the Oil of Oregano right on my throat and swallow quick. You will feel your throat melt away, no I am joking, but it will taste and feel horrible.

Easy Natural Remedies

Many years ago I found a recipe for a homemade cough syrup on Pinterest and since I had the ingredients on hand I decided to try it. THIS IS THE SHIT. Seriously clears up phlegm and cough right away and it also has a sweet and spicy burn as it goes down. I recommend using honey that is local to you if you can but any honey should do. Combine 2 tablespoons of honey, apple cider vinegar, and water with a 1/4 teaspoon each of ground cayenne and ginger. Seal in a glass container, shake until fully mixed and take one tablespoon as needed.

Honorable mention goes to Manuka Honey. This is like the Rolls Royce of the honey world. It comes specifically from bees that pollinate the native manuka bush. You can use it internally to treat ulcers, sore throats and other ailments as well as topically on wounds. It’s pretty fancy stuff and even has its own rating system to let those of us without huge knowledge an easy way to know when it is good. The higher the UMF (Unique Manuka Factor) is the more potent the honey is. Aim high and dose small. I ration this stuff out in my family and it only comes out when I need to call in the big guns. I haven’t tried many home remedies myself but they easy to try out (can’t hurt). My Grandfather used to drink your honey and apple cider vinegar recipe every morning religiously. Swore that it help him healthy (he never really did get calm colds or aches/pains….hmmmm). Not sure I can go through with it myself but the Oil of Oregano seems more up my alley.

This article is so informative. I don’t have Manuka Honey around the house as it is super expensive. But onions I do have. I will keep this in mind when the kids start getting sick. Thanks!

I can honestly say I have never heard of even one of these remedies! I’m actually so curious that I’m almost looking forward to the opportunity to try them out, lol. Almost. I’m really excited about the cough and sore throat, every time someone has a problem we spend a fortune, use a small amount then it expires – we throw it out. Rinse and repeat, and repeat, and repeat. Thank you!

I am a firm believer in taking in local honey. My allergies have been under control with no medications since I started that years ago.
