Maxi-Cosi Mico Max 30: Protecting Your Cargo

mico max 30 precious cargo I have a pretty small list of must-haves when it comes to having a baby, lots of nice-to-have, and even more don’t-waste-your-time items. A carseat though is probably one of the most important items you will buy for your babe. It will protect your most precious cargo, your baby.

I have owned many seats for my kids although NONE of my infant seats were as nice as this. The seat Cyrus has been using has seen many better years and so when I was approached to review the Mico Max 30 from Maxi-Cosi I was very excited.

This is a premium car seat and one that comes with many bells and whistles. I think there are 2 types of parents: 1) The first will look at a seat and choose based on looks or 2) the second type will delve deep into consumer reports and safety ratings and choose that way. Which ever type you are you are sure to have your wants and needs met by this seat.

Suitable for babies 4 to 30-lbs and 48-81 cm is a huge selling point for me. As a parent to a preemie I can’t tell you how glad I was that we had a seat that could take a 4-lb baby and not the usual 5. The added insert that comes with the seat must be used for smaller babies but it fits seamlessly with the design of the seat. This seat is also EXTREMELY light (lightest in its class actually) which is something parents who are of smaller stature will appreciate. Lugging around a seat that is extremely bulky can be very cumbersome. Trust me I have been a victim to this with my last 2 kids. Also, helping in this department is the ergonomic handle. You won’t appreciate how good this is unless you don’t have it, trust me.

I personally like the contrasting designs on the seat as it came but all of the harness covers and Cozi Dozi head support have reversible fabric to suit your taste. Although the colour is beautiful I am more impressed with the fabric this seat is made of. mico max 30 precious cargo

The fabric is self-wicking which will help keep baby cool AND dry while in the seat. Another plus is that the fabric on this seat comes on and off very easily, you will not have to worry about the belts AT ALL. The seat is made in such a way that you pull the padded fabric off of the shell and throw it right in the washer and dryer. In my almost 8 years of parenting I cannot even tell you how many times we have had bottles spill, washroom accidents, and other disasters grace our carseats. I once even threw out a seat because we had a blow-out on the way to Montreal and I couldn’t deal with the mess. This would have been great then.

I am a big fan of big canopies and it is a big selling point for me in both my car seats and strollers. The only thing worse then exposing a new baby to all those harmful UV rays is exposing them to the elements and this canopy doesn’t disappoint. mico max 30 precious cargo

To answer safety questions, this particular seat has Air Protect® Advanced Side Impact Protection which is like a fantastic pillow on either side of baby’s head. Another safety feature I really like is the anti-rebound bar on the base. One of my other seats for older kids has one of these and the added safety is great. I found with my other buckets there was always a fear of my seat going up but there’s nothing to fear here. mico max 4

Installation is a breeze with clear instructions on both the base and seat. An added bonus is the UAS (Universal Anchor System) which makes installing in compatible vehicles just a simple click or two away. The base is also adjustable so follow the instructions on it to make sure the base is installed correctly. mico max 30 precious cargo

Adjusting the belts and harnesses as baby grows is as simple as flipping over the seat, opening up the harnesses from the splitter plate and re-threading to the desired size. The buckle between the legs also adjusts out for when baby gets bigger and adjusting the belts while in use is easy with the harness release lever and adjustment strap. Like most of you I always made sure my stroller and car seat were compatible because I never wanted to change baby into my stroller every time we got out of the car. The Maxi-Cosi Mico Max 30 is compatible with a whole slew of premium strollers. Straight out of the box you can use it with compatible Maxi-Cosi and Quinny strollers. You can also purchase adapters for Baby Jogger, Bugaboo, Bumbleride, Contours, Jané, iCandy, Mamas & Papas, Micralite, Mountain Buggy, Phil & Teds, Stokke, UPPAbaby, and Valco Baby.
