Air Canada Foundation’s Hospital Transportation Program Needs Our Help

air canada foundation

I want to share with you something I recently had the pleasure of finding out myself, the Air Canada Foundation (more info here) and their Hospital Transportation Program. Although, I really cared about programs that helped alleviate the troubles families went through when they had a sick child, it multiplied exponentially when I had four of my own.

My kids have never been seriously sick where they were hospitalized for long periods of times but that does not mean I was no affected. Very early on I realized that as parents we are all interwoven, our journeys often cross paths with each other and I truly believe that it takes a village to raise a child. It’s no surprise that when we hear about a child (and family) in need we rally around them to give them the support they need as best we can.

I live in Toronto with access to SickKids Hospital which I have utilized many times in the past 8+ years mostly because it was so accessible. Not everyone has access to these great children’s hospitals and the Air Canada Foundation is out to help but they need our help.

Air Canada Foundation & Their Hospital Transportation Program

As a not-for-profit, the Air Canada Foundation has made it their mission to help connect hundreds of families of children a year in need of medical care with aid through the Hospital Transportation Program, to help ease child poverty and help out with sick childrens wishes with the Dreams Take Flight program.

At the core of the foundation is the Hospital Transportation Program which started in 2003 and works closely with 15 pediatric hospitals across Canada. Through the donation of Aeroplan Miles, children and families get transportation to and from medical treatment centres that are not available in their communities. A parent with a sick child will go to the ends of the earth to get their baby better, with our help they can at least get there with peace of mind that they can use their money for things like accommodation and food and not flights.

A great example of the work that they do is this video of Aidan and his family. Through the generous donations from Air Canada, Aeroplan and Aeroplan members Aiden has been able to get the medical care he needs, sometimes multiple trips a month. The past four years have seen 45 million Aeroplan Miles donated to pediatric hospitals across Canada, and we can do better through. You can find out more information on the foundation here and set up a donation of points through here. If you are looking for a way to give back these holidays this may be the perfect option for you or someone you know so please share so that they meet their goal.
